JERUSALEM – Sen. John Kerry, D-Mass., and former Sen. Chuck Hagel, R-Neb., are among the keynote speakers slated to address the annual dinner of J Street, a controversial Israel lobby group accused of working against the Jewish state, while scores of lawmakers are backing out of the event amid news media coverage of the organization's agenda.
Nearly 160 congressional lawmakers, mostly Democrats, endorsed the Oct. 26 dinner with some reportedly slated to attend.
The night's speaker list includes politicians as well as poet Josh Healey, who has penned works implying Israel is perpetuating a Holocaust against Palestinians.
J Street brands itself as pro-Israel. It states on its website it seeks to "promote meaningful American leadership to end the Arab-Israeli and Israeli-Palestinian conflicts peacefully and diplomatically." The organization mostly is led by left-leaning Israelis while it receives funds from Arab and Muslim Americans.

Politicians to Attend J Street Dinner
Unfortunately hundreds of members of Congress, mostly democrats, are to attend the J Street annual dinner later this month. Some however have wisely backed out after being informed that J Street is actually anti-Israel. You cannot be pro-Israel if you favor Iran acquiring nuclear weapons. And since J Street opposes even sanctions against Iran, essentially it is backing Iran in its quest for nuclear weapons. You can’t be pro-Israel if you think hamas should be part of a unity government and you can’t be pro-Israel if you oppose Israel’s basic right to self-defense, which is the position J Street took when it opposed the Gaza operation. And you can't be pro-Israel when you invite speakers who accuse it of being a nazi state. And it isn’t just Likudniks who oppose J Street’s agenda. Even Israelis on the left are now backing away from J Street as they become more aware of what it truly represents. With more and more revelations regarding its donors and speakers attending its events, perhaps J Street can be stopped in its tracks before it becomes an effective lobby on Capitol Hill. This is another of the many reasons that the democrats' control of Congress must be reversed next year.
