This Week's Haveil Havalim

Edition #219 of the Jewish blog carnival Haveil Havalim is being hosted by Dov Bear.

Obama Blocks Helicopters For Israel

To all those liberal Jews who shilled for obama during the campaign, ensuring that this marxist, closeted muslim really was a friend of Israel, what the hell do you have to say for yourselves now? People like wexler and nadler must be thrown out of office. This article shows the Obama administration to be the most anti-Israel ever as it actively works toward helping the arabs obliterate Israel by making Israel defenseless. You also have to wonder about the shortsightedness of Israeli governments over the years which did not invest in developing the country's own helicopters and fighter jets. In the 80's, the Lavi was foolishly scrapped.

Administration blocks helicopters for Israel due to civilian casualties in Gaza
WASHINGTON — The Obama administration has blocked Israel's request for advanced U.S.-origin attack helicopters.

Government sources said the administration has held up Israel's request for the AH-64D Apache Longbow attack helicopter. The sources said the request was undergoing an interagency review to determine whether additional Longbow helicopters would threaten Palestinian civilians in the Gaza Strip.

"During the recent war, Israel made considerable use of the Longbow, and there were high civilian casualties in the Gaza Strip," a source close to the administration said.

The sources said Israel has sought to purchase up to six new AH-64Ds in an effort to bolster conventional and counter-insurgency capabilities. They said Israel wants to replenish its fleet after the loss of two Apache helicopters in the 2006 war with Hizbullah.

The Israel Air Force has also requested U.S. permission to integrate the Spike extended-range anti-tank missile into the AH-64D. Spike ER, developed by the state-owned Rafael Advanced Defense Systems, has a range of eight kilometers and was installed on the Eurocopter Tiger and AgustaWestland A129 helicopters.

The sources said the deployment of Spike would require integration into the Longbow's millimeter-wave fire control and acquisition system. They said this would require permission from both Boeing and the U.S. government.

Israel's Defense Ministry and air force have discussed procurement of additional Longbows with the U.S. firm Boeing. But the sources said the Longbow as well as other defense requests have been shelved by the administration amid its review of the potential use of American weapons platforms by Israel.

During his visit to the United States, Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu also sought to win approval from the Defense Department for the installation of Israeli-origin electronic warfare systems in the Joint Strike Fighter.

Netanyahu was said to have met Defense Secretary Robert Gates in a review of Israeli defense programs with the United States. Defense Minister Ehud Barak was scheduled to meet Gates in Washington in early June.

Bibi Must Defy Obama and the Dems

The Obama administration along with some Jewish democrats are putting the squeeze on Netanyahu.
Netanyahu: “What the hell do they want from me?”
Foreign Policy,

Last night, shortly after U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton told journalists that the Obama administration “wants to see a stop to settlements — not some settlements, not outposts, not natural growth exceptions,” Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu called a confidante. Referring to Clinton’s call for a settlement freeze, Netanyahu groused, “What the hell do they want from me?” according to his associate, who added, “I gathered that he heard some bad vibes in his meetings with [U.S.] congressional delegations this week.”

In the 10 days since Netanyahu and President Barack Obama held a meeting at the White House, the Obama administration has made clear in public and private meetings with Israeli officials that it intends to hold a firm line on Obama’s call to stop Israeli settlements. According to many observers in Washington and Israel, the Israeli prime minister, looking for loopholes and hidden agreements that have often existed in the past with Washington, has been flummoxed by an unusually united line that has come not just from Obama White House and the secretary of state, but also from pro-Israel congressmen and women who have come through Israel for meetings with him over Memorial Day recess. To Netanyahu’s dismay, Obama doesn’t appear to have a hidden policy. It is what he said it was.

“This is a sea change for Netanyahu,” a former senior Clinton administration official who worked on Middle East issues said. The official said that the basis of the Obama White House’s resolve is the conviction that it is in the United States’ as well as Israel’s interest to end the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. “We have significant, existential threats that Israel faces from Iran and that the U.S. faces from this region. It is in our mutual interest to end this conflict, and to begin to build new regional alliances.”

Netanyahu needed to engage Obama directly, the former official said. “Now that he has done so, and also sent a team of advisors to meet [special envoy to the Middle East George] Mitchell, he has very clearly received a message: ‘I meant what I said on settlements. No natural growth. No elasticity. There will be a clear settlement freeze.’” (Netanyahu sent a team of advisors including minister for intelligence Dan Meridor for meetings with Mitchell in London Monday.)

“Over the past 15 years, settlements have gone from being seen in Washington as an irritant, to the dominant issue,” says Georgetown Univeristy Middle East expert Daniel Byman. He pointed out that key figures in the Obama administration — Mitchell, who headed the Mitchell Commission, which recommended a halt to settlements; national security advisor Gen. Jim Jones — see the Jewish settlements in the West Bank, home to some 290,000 people, as a key obstacle to getting a peace settlement. “I don’t think the logic is hidden,” Byman said.

It’s not just the administration that’s delivering Netanyahu that message, however. Whereas in the past Israeli leaders have sometimes eased pressure from Washington on the settlements issue by going to members of Congress, this time, observers in Washington and Israel say, key pro-Israel allies in Congress have been largely reinforcing the Obama team’s message to Netanyahu. What changed? “Members of Congress have more willing to follow the leadership of the administration … because [they] believe it is in our national security interest to move toward ending the conflict and that it is not a zero sum for Israel,” the former senior Clinton administration official said.

“Netanyahu and [Israeli Foreign Minister Avigdor] Lieberman are probing, looking for areas they can get space gratis from the United States,” says Hussein Ibish, a senior fellow at the American Task Force for Palestine. “And they are not finding it.”

“We’ve been watching the move in Congress, especially among certain high profile Jewish American members — people like Representative Gary Ackerman, Representative Robert Wexler, and Representative Howard Berman,” Ibish said. “What has occurred — and this has been greatly intensified by the election of Obama: There has been a growing sense of members of Congress who are well-informed on foreign policy … that peace is essential to the American national interest and the Israeli national interest. And there’s been a growing sense that the possibility of a two-state agreement is time-limited and that things like the settlements are incompatible with the goal of creating two states.”

Don’t bother with this bullshit in trying to convince the administration regarding settlements. Israel need not justify to this punk occupying the White House that Jews can live anywhere they please in their own homeland. Just defy Obama along with those kapos in Congress and keep building.

And how in the hell is it a threat to American national security if Jews build homes in Judea and Samaria? Iranian and North Korean nukes are what threatens American national security and how will preventing Jews from building homes and creating another islamic terror state stop those two countries from developing nuclear weapons? Where is the logic in this?

Nicholas Sarkozy

There was hope that Nicholas Sarkozy would be more friendly to Israel but it turns out he is every bit the scoundrel that his predecessors were. Who the hell is he to call for the division of Jerusalem? Why doesn't he give half of Paris to the muslims and create a muslim state within France given that islam is now the second largest religion in France?

An Open Letter to M. Nicolas Sarkozy, President, The Republic of France

by Rabbi Israel Vana, Dr. Arnold Pock and Jerry Gordon

President Nicholas Sarkozy of France
It is with great respect that we write you regarding undivided Jerusalem, capitol of the Jewish State of Israel. This is a matter of utmost importance to all Jews, including those valued citizens of France. As someone intensely proud of your Greek Jewish relatives who fought in the French Resistance during World War II, you should have more than a passing interest in this matter. Your position on the status of Jerusalem and the mass deportation of Israeli citizens from both Judea and Samaria ignores both G-d’s covenant with his people and the legal mandate of the San Remo Conference of 1920 that defined the Jewish Homeland under the auspices of League of Nations.

The Jewish people have lived in the land of Israel for more than 3500 years. After the brutal destruction of the Jewish republic in 135 C.E. by the Roman Emperor Hadrian, the Jewish people had no sovereignty, until the establishment of the State of Israel in May, 1948 under the UN partition plan. For two thousand years, we lived as despised second class subjects under the sufferance and degradation of Christian rulers in Europe. We have been murdered, burned and tortured in the tens of millions, culminating in the Shoah. Six Million Jewish men, women and children, including many French citizens were murdered during the Holocaust. Our people were fed to the lions, our women were raped and many were forced to convert to Christianity. Our people were placed in prisons for crimes that they did not commit. Blood libel accusations were leveled against our people. Tens of thousands of Jews were murdered in the Crusade periods and hundreds of thousands were expelled from Spain, as a result of the Reconquista in 1492 and the Portuguese expulsion in 1497.

France, starting with Napoleon in the 19th Century was a beacon of enlightenment, freedom and liberty for Jewish citizens and protected many Jews in the Ottoman Empire.

Islam propelled by the Quranic doctrines of the Prophet Mohammed, the self styled messenger of Allah, arose in a bloody Jihad against Jews and Christians 1400 years ago. His successor, thel Caliph Omar had the audacity to build the Al Aksa mosque on the holiest place significant to our people, the Temple Mount. The Jihad and hatred of Jews inherent in Islam has persisted and is the basis for threats to extinguish the Jewish State of Israel. Jews are despised by Muslims including those in France as the ‘sons of apes and pigs’.

Given this history of Jewish persecution and hatred, the Christian West and the Muslim believers thought that Judaism was finished. G-d however, had different plans. The Jews returned after the Shoah to our ancestral homeland. Jews returned from the far reaches of the Diaspora-Europe, America, India, and the Arab Middle East- to build a Jewish nation. Jews are there to stay!

The most important issue for all Jews, especially the citizens of Israel is Jerusalem! Do you really think we have any obligation to divide Jerusalem after its re-unification as a result of the 1967 Six Days of War? Do you think it will appease Palestinians or those irredentist Israel Arabs in their quest to establish a state in Israel’s midst? Would you like to see Paris and other major cities in France divided into self governing ‘no go zones’ just to appease the significant minority Muslim community? As a former Interior Minister involved in combating Muslim extremists burning their districts and murdering French Jewish citizens you should know better.

Culture Clash in Toronto

Here's yet another example of why islam is incompatible with western civilization. A man living in an apartment building in Toronto, Canada was threatened with death for merely saying "good morning" to a muslim woman neighbor. It is bizarrely considered inappropriate interaction for a man to simply say "hello", "good morning" or any other kind of greeting to an unrelated woman. Western culture is going to be irrevocably transformed if we continue with this multicultural madness. It's clear that islamic ways cannot be reconciled with our way of life.

When the landlady of my Toronto apartment building said an outraged neighbour had filed a complaint about me over an apparently inappropriate hallway interaction with his wife, my mind raced through the countless conversations I've had with fellow tenants, none of which seemed a possible source of offence.

It turns out, it wasn't a salacious transaction that had caused the complaint, but rather a neighbourly and -- to me -- entirely forgettable greeting, little more than a brief "good morning" as I passed my neighbours on the way to work.

Still, it was enough of an affront for the man -- once a doctor somewhere in the Middle East, my landlady clarified -- to feel I had broken a cultural taboo. The incident started an awkward feud which has involved warnings not to repeat my indiscretion and one face-to-face shouting match, which included allusions to my impending death.

I expect the battle will wage on, as we appear to be stuck at an impasse.

His Muslim upbringing has ingrained in him a sense of entitlement to demand I not speak directly to his wife; and my prairie upbringing has ingrained in me a duty to strive for polite cohesion with my neighbours.

My landlady, who has handled the complaint with tittering trepidation, hasn't helped dispel the friction. She has told me to adhere to the demands because the man "could be dangerous," directing me to literally turn my back to the couple as they pass, never make eye contact and never hold the elevator for them, no matter what.

Muslims Fail to Stop Restaurant From Selling Alcohol

The state of Tennessee stood up to the muslim mob and granted a liquor license to a restaurant in Knoxville which is located near a mosque. If they have a problem with this let them relocate their mosque or better yet return to the countries of their origin which are ruled by sharia and alcohol is prohibited.

The Hill to sell alcohol next week despite mosque concern

By Jessie Pounds
May 8, 2009

KNOXVILLE -- The Hill restaurant in Fort Sanders, which has been the source of controversy over sales of alcohol, will open Wednesday despite concern by members of an adjacent mosque.

The Hill owner Trevor Hill said he found out this week that his request for a liquor license has been granted by the state.

Members of Anoor mosque, which is 191 feet from the restaurant at 1105 Forest Ave., have been upset about the possibility of a business that sells alcoholic drinks and stays open late being located on property next to their mosque.

Some mosque members tried to block Hill from getting a liquor license but were unsuccessful. Knoxville’s local beer ordinance establishes a 300-foot buffer zone around churches and other community institutions for a beer permit but waives the requirement if the establishment is granted a state liquor license.

According to Nadeem Siddiqi of Anoor, mosque members aren’t surprised that the liquor license request went through because they received word from Nashville that the process was a purely administrative one by the state Alcoholic Beverage Commission.

Siddiqi said mosque members continue to have concerns about the proximity of Hill’s business but intend to let the matter rest for now.

See, the sky won't fall if we resist the demands of the muslim ummah.

Iran and North Korea

I’m tired of us behaving like a nation of helpless ninnies allowing Iran and North Korea to assert themselves militarily and obtain nuclear weapons. I’m tired of hearing so-called military experts saying we can’t attack them militarily, and waiting around hoping China will deal with North Korea or the UN will stop Iran. This is pathetic, hoping China will protect us from North Korea. Excuse me, but aren’t we a superpower? I’m not buying that there isn’t a military option. It’s not that we lack the ability, we lack the will. We need to start acting like America again and take charge and put North Korea and Iran in their place.

Iran Grows Bold

By INVESTOR'S BUSINESS DAILY | Posted Tuesday, May 26, 2009 4:20 PM PT

Axis Of Evil: The U.S. has given Iran until year-end to clean up its act. Iran's making the most of its opportunity — shooting off missiles, sending ships into the Gulf of Aden and defying efforts to halt its nuclear program.

As with North Korea, a problem allowed to fester until it set off a Hiroshima-sized nuke, we're now in the process of ignoring a potentially bigger problem as Iran develops its own nuclear weapon. How do such things happen? As they say: All that's required for evil to prevail is for good people to do nothing.

In this case, Iran has routinely made its aims clear — as did North Korea. Iran sees nuclear hegemony in the Mideast as its divine right.

That's why, knowing we've decided on appeasement as the best course, Iran's Mahmoud Ahmadinejad on the very day of North Korea's demonstration of a nuclear bomb said that a "freeze" of Iran's own nuclear program was out of the question.

The U.S., along with Russia, China, France, Germany and Britain, has asked Iran to discuss their differences. As part of President Obama's decision to "engage" with Iran, rather than threaten it, we've gotten a clear response from Iran: No. Diplomatic engagement lets Iran buy time while the world dithers, as with North Korea, and lets Iran's scientists finish their nuclear plans.

Iran already has in its possession workable plans for a bomb. It may only need bomb-grade uranium. Well, guess what? An Israeli report says Venezuela and Bolivia are supplying Iran with just that. This augments what Iran has already acquired by sending teams of engineers and top government officials to North Korea and Pakistan to tap their nuclear know-how.

Emboldened by the rest of the world's inability — or lack of will — to stop it, Iran is now flexing its muscles. Last week, Iranian Adm. Habibollah Sayyari said Iran had test-fired a new surface-to-surface missile with a 1,200-mile range. For the record, it can hit Israel. It can also hit U.S. bases in the region.

Iran isn't stopping there. It's developing missiles that will soon let it directly threaten the easily intimidated governments of the European Union, and all of the Middle East.

This week, it sent six warships into the Gulf of Aden, supposedly as an anti-pirate move. But sending ships to the Gulf, through which 7% of the world's oil is shipped, might also be a threat to oil producers in the region who are now at odds with Iran: Mess with us, and we cut off your oil.

Bibi Removing Outposts

It would appear Bibi Netanyahu has caved in to Obama's demands regarding "settlements". What gives this community activist punk the power to determine where Jews should reside in their own homeland? As I have said, one of the architects of resolution 242, Eugene Rostow, made it perfectly clear that Jewish settlement is legal.

PM to Likud: Criticizing outpost policy takes focus off Iran

By JPOST.COM

Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu on Monday called for Likud faction members to refrain from speaking out against the removal of illegal outposts in the West Bank, so as not to harm the fight against the Iranian threat.

Nine illegal outposts in West Bank served with zoning notices

He defended the recent government focus on evacuating unauthorized outposts, saying “Even during the election campaign I said that we’re a law-abiding country, and that we would deal with illegal outposts. If possible - through dialogue.”

Regarding his relationship with Defense Minister Ehud Barak, Netanyahu said, “The defense minister and I work in coordination. He doesn’t run an independent state.”

“We’re not [living] in ordinary times,” he told MKs. “The danger is gaining on us. The most dangerous threat to a living organism is not to identify danger. My role, first and foremost, is to secure the future of the State of Israel. This comes before anything else.”

The prime minister also emphasized the importance of strong Israel-US relations, and commented that “the situation between 1996 and 1999 [Netanyahu's previous term as prime minister] is not like today.”

He went on to stress that the national priorities must match the current needs of the country, saying, “There must be broad national unity as must as possible, so off to stave off the danger.”

He concluded his address by reiterating his call for unity.

Earlier Monday, Barak emphasized that the government must continue with its plan to evacuate unauthorized outposts.

“We will have dialogue - but if not, we will act unilaterally, while using an appropriate amount of force if necessary… It is not a matter of months or years… we will act in the coming weeks,” Barak said during a Labor faction meeting Monday afternoon.

The Naqba Against Jews From Arab Countries

We are constantly bombarded with talk of the poor Palestinian refugees, which Israel is being held responsible for even though their plight is self-inflicted as well as their situation having been caused by their Arab brethren. Here is the untold story of the plight of Jews from Arab countries who were the victims of pogroms, massacres and ethnic cleansing. Several hundred thousand Jews were forced out of Arab countries and absorbed by Israel.

Creeping Islamization in Tennessee

We are starting to see the beginnings of what Europe is experiencing with muslim immigrants. The Somali muslims in Shelbyville, Tennessee are creating their own enclave where firefighters responding to alarm calls from an apartment building are told to leave and the police are reluctant to patrol the apartment complex after dark. The school system is having difficulties with the muslims who are demanding that the schools conform to their ways and men are refusing to speak to female supervisors of schools, stores and hospitals. When are we going to realize that a large proportion of muslim immigrants will never assimilate and thus don't belong here. You would think we would learn from Europe's experience yet we are headed down the same destructive path. What will it take for authorities to understand that these people seek domination over us and to replace our constitution with sharia? They do not come here to be Americans.

The Bible-belt state of Tennessee is not known to have been targeted by Al-Qaeda or any other radical Islamic terrorist group, but the Volunteer State may be becoming a hotbed for the growth of extremism. Reports from Nashville, Shelbyville, and Dover indicate that Tennessee has gradually become a stronghold for radical Islamic forces that are transforming parts of the state.

On May 13, I reported on the discovery of extremism at the Al-Farooq Mosque in Nashville by award-winning counter-terrorism expert Dave Gaubatz, an individual that once held top-secret security clearance as an agent for the Air Force’s Office of Special Investigations. The library carried extremist texts and audio tapes by known radicals such as Syed Maududi and Ali Al-Tamimi, who was convicted for his role in terrorism. One calls for the killing of homosexuals, and another describes how Muslims not engaged in taking up an armed jihad must “strengthen the capability of those fighting on the front line.” Other texts were found by his female researcher when a member of the mosque brought her to a Somali store in Nashville that was well hidden because of what the mosque attendee described as “government problems.”

Most shockingly, one of his researchers recorded a seven-year old girl describing the teachers at the mosque as hitting the children. Although Gaubatz himself did not see such abuse, he described an incident where he heard a teacher scream and an 8-10 year old girl yell. After Gaubatz turned and looked to see what happened, he saw the teacher carrying a stick between 12 and 14 inches long. Although he did not see her get hit, Gaubatz said “from the reactions of the other children, I believe this happened.”

Gaubatz forwarded the information to the Nashville Police Department and Child Protective Services, each of which declined to launch an investigation saying not enough information was provided. CPS also told Gaubatz that the Nashville P.D. did not inform them of the tip.

Gaubatz also says that you can hear the girl mentioning her “husband” on the audio, although Detective Brooks Harris from the department rejected that allegation, saying he and his staff repeatedly listened to the audio and that she was saying the word “aunt” in her native tongue. Gaubatz says that members of the mosque did confirm they practiced polygamy.

Al-Farooq Mosque is attended by many Somali immigrants, and Islamic websites say that services are offered in Somali. Nashville alone is home to about 5,000 such immigrants, and their lack of assimilation is becoming a common complaint in Tennessee. The town of Shelbyville is the most dramatic example of this problem.

Brian Moseley of the Shelbyville Times-Gazzette has written an award-winning series about the impact of these refugees on the town of 17,000.

Moseley says that the local authorities described being frequently disrespected by the Somali immigrants, which number between 400 and 1,000, and are noticing that many become involved with gangs.

David Frost Interviews Moshe Ya'alon

Some excerpts from David Frost's interview with Ya'alon on Al Jazeera English TV:

Mr. Ayalon: Well you know, this in also an interesting question because the Palestinian Authority was the only place in recent history where armed terrorist groups were allowed to run in the elections before disarming. If you look at other examples, whether it was in Iraq of recent, or Afghanistan, or even Bosnia, Sir David, all those who were eligible to run had to disarm, except here in the case of Hamas. And also unfortunately, unfortunately, when we analyze the results of the elections you know, the Fatah won the popular vote, however because of the districting issue and because of a lot of internal fighting among and between the Fatah members Hamas just got the upper hand, although they did not win the popular vote.

This is the wrong argument to make. What he should have said is that yes hamas won the election, which is precisely why the “palestinians” do not deserve statehood since they chose to be led by terrorists. hitler was also elected.

Interviewer: Now in terms of the settlements, the President said that in fact Israel had an obligation, according to the 2003 Road Map to Peace, to stop building settlements. He was passionate about stopping settlement. Would you agree with him about the 2003 obligation that Israel has?

Mr. Ayalon: Absolutely. Absolutely, and we have said since this government here in Israel was elected, we, in the tradition of the democratic process and the rule of law, yes, we must abide by former international obligations of all previous Israeli governments, including this issue of 2003 and the Road Map to Peace. However, the caveat here is that all the onus should not be put only on the Israeli side, whereby the Palestinians also have obligations which they are unwilling or even unable to take at this point. Certainly not in Gaza when Hamas just vows, and all you have to do is go into their websites and hear their rhetoric - they vow to exterminate, eliminate the State of Israel. So if we put it in the broader context, yes we are willing to take all the risks necessary - calculated risks of course. We are willing for political concessions, but they have to be mutual. And to frontload, or to put all the burden of the process just on the settlements is not right. We have proven in the past that the settlements will not be an obstacle to peace. In 2005, Ariel Sharon evacuated all settlements, 21 of them, from Gaza.

Again, this response disgusts me. What he should have answered was that Jewish “settlements” are not illegal and cited Eugene Rostow, one of the architects of resolution 242, who stated that Jewish settlement in Judea and Samaria is LEGAL. This is the major problem with Israeli leaders, instead of defending Israel’s rights, they concede the completely false Arab and international narrative regarding Jewish settlement as well as the notion that Israel is an “occupier”.

Wife of Iranian Candidate: "Israel is everlasting enemy"

Zahra Rahnavard, who is being called the Michelle Obama of Iran, is the wife of Iranian presidential candidate, Mir Hossein Mousavi. She had this to say about Israel:

"Our main and everlasting enemy is Israel. But we will interact with other lands and nations if they regard our national interests," Zahra Rahnavard said, while addressing an election campaign gathering in Tehran's Shahid Beheshti University, promoting her husbands political viewpoints. [...]

Such people are regarded as "moderate" and "reformers" in the west. Then again, rafsanjani who advocated hitting Israel with a nuclear first strike because while it would only damage the muslim world it would destroy Israel, was also regarded by the west as a moderate. The bar is extremely low in determining who the west considers moderate in the muslim world.

My concern is that if one of these so-called "reformers" does win, it will be used as an excuse to reign in Israel and proclaim that negotiating with Iran can achieve results and therefore the military option should be off the table.

Colin Powell

General Colin Powell is now putting his two cents in regarding Obama vs Cheney. I don’t believe a thing Powell says anymore. I will take Cheney’s word over his. Powell lost his credibility the moment he placed race ahead of country and endorsed Obama. Did he actually believe that that community activist was more qualified to be president then McCain? Please! He is now nothing more than an unofficial shill for the Obama administration and thus anything he says regarding the Cheney/Obama brouhaha over water boarding must be seen in that light. Unfortunately the media and the American people hold him in high esteem, therefore his claim that Cheney is “misinformed” will carry weight and help Obama.

Obama Forbids an Israeli Military Strike Against Iran

Apparently Obama has forbidden Israel to launch a military strike against Iran.

Israel's military option against Iran has died. The death warrant was issued courtesy of the new U.S. administration led by Barack Obama.

All the administration's senior officials, from the president to his vice president, Joe Biden, Defense Secretary Robert Gates and others are sending strong, clear hints that Israel does not have permission to strike Iran. Yet, given their familiarity with the Israeli client, they have not made do with simple hints and intimations. Washington dispatched the new CIA director, Leon Panetta, to Israel. Panetta made clear to Netanyahu, in so many words, that an Israeli attack would create "big trouble."

Perhaps Israel at one point had just a small window of opportunity to exercise the military option, or, in other words, the possibility of attacking sites in Iran to prevent it from developing nuclear weapons. This is assuming, of course, that Israel indeed has the military capability for carrying out such a mission - an assumption that raises many questions. This is a mission that requires gathering pinpoint intelligence, to identify the precise targets without harming thousands of innocent civilians.

Simply put, one of the targets of such a strike is the uranium enrichment facility in Isfahan, which lies in the heart of a congested civilian population. A realistic military option is also contingent on fighter jets finding undetected routes, as well as carrying a sufficient payload of bombs and missiles to inflict heavy damage on the targets.

Let us assume that Israel does, indeed, have a reasonable military capability which would enable it to strike at the targets, inflict heavy damage and set Iran's nuclear program back a few years. The opportunity to realize this capability arguably presented itself to Israel a few years ago. Iran at the time was subject to an intense international offensive. Inspectors of the International Atomic Energy Agency repeatedly exposed its lies and levied sanctions against the Tehran regime.

Threats made by President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad to wipe Israel from the map and his insistence on denying the Holocaust aroused great sympathy for Israel. This sympathy was buttressed by the Olmert government's willingness to hold peace talks with Syria and seek an agreement with the Palestinians. Above all, this friendly international atmosphere was backed by an accommodating Republican administration and a president who was ready to support (or to turn a blind eye to) any Israeli operation. In addition, Iran's ability to respond to an attack with missiles was limited.

But all this is now in the past. The sanctions are stuck. Ahmadinejad has, for the time being, softened his bellicose rhetoric. The production of Iranian missiles has doubled.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is not ready to recognize the right of the Palestinians to a state of their own, nor does he have any intention of holding serious negotiations with Syria, regarding withdrawal from the Golan Heights. This position reduces international support for Israel. Yet, most importantly, there is a new president in Washington, one who has outlined a new policy vis-a-vis Iran. He has announced the start of negotiations with Iran, and even though he mentioned that the talks will have to be concluded by the end of this year, he did not set a clear deadline. All these factors, including the explicit statements made by administration officials, put Israel in its place.

The supreme tenet of Israeli defense policy states that Jerusalem must not launch any strategic initiative that stands in contradiction, or places in harm's way, the clear interests of the United States. This stance has underpinned every fateful decision taken by Israel relating to matters of war and peace. Israel embarked on the Six-Day War only after it was convinced that the U.S. would not oppose. In the hours leading up to the Yom Kippur War, Israel refrained from launching a preemptive strike for fear that Washington would blame it for starting the war. Israel invaded Lebanon in 1982 only after Defense Minister Ariel Sharon came under the impression that the U.S. would view the move with understanding. During the first Gulf War in 1991, the U.S. did not permit Israel to respond to Iraqi scud missiles, and Israel obliged.

If this tenet remains the cornerstone of defense policy, then Israel once again will not act against the explicit wishes of the U.S. Thus, when Israeli leaders say that "all options are open," this is nothing but a dog's bark being louder than his bite. Or, if you will, a mouse that roars. If the U.S. does not alter its policy, then Israel no longer has the military option at its disposal - if it ever had such an option at all.

Israel did destroy Iraq's Osirak nuclear facility in 1981 against the wishes of the Reagan administration and to which Cheney a decade later after the Gulf war victory, thanked Israel for its decisive action. Imagine if hussein had nukes when he invaded Kuwait. Israel also in September of '07 went against the wishes of the Bush administration and bombed Syria's nuclear facility. So I find it hard to believe that with its very existence at stake, Israel is just going to acquiesce to the demands of the Obama administration and sit passively by while Iran acquires a nuclear weapons capability coupled with that country's very public threats to wipe Israel off the map.

Muslims Riot in Greece

Muslims rioted in Greece because supposedly a koran was destroyed by a police officer. These are sick people. When the hell are western leaders going to acknowledge the truth, that islam is a scourge upon the Earth instead of pretending islam is a peaceful religion which has been hijacked by fringe extremists? It's time we acknowledged that the violent crazies in fact DO represent islam's mainstream. So now the officer is going to be in legal trouble but I'll bet nothing is going to happen to the rioters who vandalized shops and cars. What's even a bigger problem then muslim immigrants in the west are feckless politicians and government officials who consistently indulge the muslims savage, lawless and infantile behavior.
Muslims protest alleged Koran destruction in Greece
Fri May 22, 2009
By Dina Kyriakidou

ATHENS (Reuters) - Hundreds of Muslims marched through central Athens on Thursday, damaging shops and cars, to protest what they said was the destruction of a Koran by a Greek policeman.

"The president of the Muslim Union of Greece, Naim Elghandour, said that during police checks at a Syrian-owned coffee shop on Wednesday, an officer took a customer's Koran, tore it up, threw it on the floor and stomped on it.

In response, about 1,000 immigrants, many from Syria, Pakistan and Afghanistan, marched to central Omonia Square, smashing several shop windows and five cars, a police official said.

Police sources said an internal investigation was launched into the Koran incident.

"We were told by police we will be given the name of the policeman who did this so we can press charges," Elghandour said.

Thousands of immigrants, many from Muslim countries, cross into Greece illegally every year seeking a better life in the West. Trapped in legal limbo, most have no jobs, live in squalid conditions and are often arrested for minor crimes.

On May 9, members of a rightist group attacked immigrants in Athens, sending at least three to hospital. Rights groups accuse predominantly Orthodox Christian Greece of not doing enough to protect immigrants.

Dutch Supreme Court Rules Against Wilders

The Dutch Supreme Court ruled that Geert Wilders can be prosecuted. If he is convicted this may be the beginning of the end of western civilization and the triumph of islam. With the people we have in power now in America, this could very well happen here. It won't matter what we do militarily abroad if islam is allowed to defeat us from within. Ironically those muslim imams who really do incite hatred and violence are not being prosecuted. But to point out the violence and hatred endemic in islam is in itself grounds to be accused of and prosecuted for incitement and hatred against muslims.
As reported by DutchNews.com, the Dutch Supreme Court has ruled that Geert Wilders can be prosecuted. Wilders and Dutch counsel had sought to dismiss the criminal prosecution matter. This Dutch Supreme Court decision overturns the public prosecutor’s office opinion and supports the Amsterdam Appeals court decision brought by a cabal of leftists and Muslim advocates.
This trial could become the equivalent of the Dreyfus trial of the 21st Century. However doughty Wilders has said that he and worthy counsel are eager to present evidence in this politically contrived courtroom drama. He's quoted in this article as saying:
‘I am being prosecuted for something millions of Dutch people are thinking... Freedom of speech is being sacrificed on the altar of Islam. But I am ready to fight back with my head held high’

Note the comment to this Dutch News.com article written by a supporter of criminal prosecution of Dutch politician Geert Wilders.
He needs to be prosecuted and found guilty so that he will under the constitution be banned from political office and thus out of the picture.

His presence tarnishes the image of Dutch morality and basic human dignity.

This is not to do with freedom of speech but the battle against those in public office that abuse that right by creating hatred against one group for political purposes.

He will almost certainly be found guilty as he has clearly stated that the Qur'an is evil and that Islam is attempting to conquer the world and out to kill non-Muslims. That is a confession of bigoted hatred and his ridiculous line that he has nothing against Muslims and just the Qur'an is like saying that he has nothing against Christians but just the Bible.
Very frightening. Read the rest.

The islamization of Sweden

A once tranquil country, extreme liberal immigration policies have turned Sweden's third largest city Malmo into an islamist enclave where being visibly Jewish can get you beaten up, where fire and emergency workers can't enter without police protection, rape has skyrocketed and where a local muslim politician said "the best islamic state is Sweden". The left in Sweden as elsewhere in the west stand in solidarity with the muslims and they vote the same way. The left is every bit as dangerous and even more so to western civilization, than the muslims.

Juan Cole on Iran and Israel

More moonbattery from Juan Cole:

Iran is a signatory to the Nuclear Non-Proliferation treaty, and allows regular inspections by the International Atomic Energy Agency, even if the latter is not completely satisfied with Iran's transparency. Israel just thumbed its nose at the NPT. Israel would only have the moral high ground in demanding that Iran cease enrichment research if it gave up its own some 150 warheads.

Israel already has the moral high ground by virtue of the fact that it is a free democratic state as opposed to the islamic dictatorship and state sponsor of terror that Iran is. So that fact entitles Israel to have nuclear weapons while Iran should be prevented from obtaining nuclear weapons. Demanding Iran give up enrichment should not be predicated on Israel giving up its nuclear arsenal since the two countries are not morally equivalent.

As brutal as the Sri Lankan campaign was, it does not leave the Tamils at the end of the day without basic rights of citizenship in a state, which is the condition of the Palestinians-- who are therefore the most oppressed people in the world.

juan cole's writings are demented. So Tamils get wantonly slaughtered nevertheless the so-called "palestinians" are worse off? Not only worse off but the most oppressed people in the world? Really? More oppressed than the millions of people suffering under dictatorships and islamic sharia states? More oppressed than people in Iran, Sudan, Somalia, Pakistan, Afghanistan, North Korea etc.? The "palestinians" are certainly oppressed to a degree, but they are being oppressed by their own terrorist rulers, certainly not by Israelis. But juan cole is not interested in that. He's not interested in the persecution of Christians under hamas and fatah rule, he's not interested in the fact that hamas instituted crucifixions and limb amputations as punishments for "crimes" or the fact that under both hamas and fatah, one can be executed for selling land to Jews. But this is frequently the case with leftists in that they only concern themselves with the plight of the palestinians when it can be blamed on Israel. Why are the "palestinians" without citizenship in a state? Because the arab countries have refused to take them into their own countries and give them citizenship. The palestinians should be their responsibility not Israel's.

It's hard to believe any westerners can have this outlook. Are Juan cole and other leftists afflicted with a serious brain defect which causes them to see the world the way they do?

Breaking News

Four jihadis have been arrested in a plot to bomb a synagogue in the Riverdale section of the Bronx and to shoot down military planes with surface to air missiles. Apparently a mosque in Newburg was involved.

Obama's Dangerous Iran Policy

Apparently the Obama administration is resigned to a nuclear armed Iran. This not only threatens the existence of Israel but also our very own security as Iran increasingly gains a foothold throughout Latin America through its hezbollah proxies and alliances with the communist regimes in Cuba, Venezuela and Nicaragua. Liberals, including Obama and the advisers he surrounds himself with, are convinced that America creates enemies by its actions and thus believes that if we reach out and behave nicely towards them they will cease hostilities. Barack Hussein Obama is dangerously clueless.

Our World: Iran's global reach
By CAROLINE GLICK

US President Barack Obama underestimates the threat Iran poses to global security. Were this not the case, he would not have sent CIA Director Leon Panetta to Israel ahead of Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu's visit to the White House.

Panetta was reportedly dispatched here to read the government the riot act. Israel, he reportedly told his interlocutors, must not attack Iran without first receiving permission from Washington. Moreover, Israel should keep its mouth shut about attacking Iran. As far as Washington is concerned, Iran's latest threats to destroy Israel were nothing more than payback for statements by Netanyahu and other senior Israeli officials regarding Israel's refusal to countenance a nuclear armed Iran.

Over the past several weeks, we have learned that the administration has made its peace with Iran's nuclear aspirations. Senior administration officials acknowledge as much in off-record briefings. It is true, they say, that Iran may exploit its future talks with the US to run down the clock before they test a nuclear weapon. But, they add, if that happens, the US will simply have to live with a nuclear-armed mullocracy.

The administration's nonchalance about the threat of a nuclear armed Iran explains why the White House is so up in arms about the prospect of Israel acting independently to prevent Iran from building a nuclear arsenal. As far as the administration is concerned, the only reason Iran would threaten US interests is if Israel provokes it. As far as the administration is concerned, if Israel could just leave Iran's nuclear installations alone, Iran would behave itself. But if Israel preemptively takes out Iran's nuclear capabilities, and Iran in turn attacks Israeli and US targets in the region, the Obama administration will hold Israel - not Iran - responsible for whatever losses the US incurs. That was apparently the message Panetta wanted to transmit to Jerusalem during his recent visit.

WHILE LARGELY supported by the US media, the administration's view of the Iranian threat is not without its domestic critics. Opponents of the administration's policy of engagement and appeasement have pointed out that a nuclear armed Iran will surely destabilize the Middle East and as a consequence, will harm US national security interests. And this is true enough. Whether by spurring a regional nuclear arms race; destabilizing with the intent of overthrowing Western-aligned regimes in Egypt, Iraq, Jordan, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Bahrain and Morocco; enabling its terror proxies in Hizbullah and Hamas to operate under its nuclear umbrella; or attacking Israel with nuclear weapons, it is clear that the emergence of Iran as a nuclear power will cause tragedy, grief, chronic war and instability throughout the region. And - as the administration's critics make clear - such a state of affairs would be antithetical to US national interests.

While correct, these warnings miss the mark. Yes, it is true that a nuclear-armed Iran would destabilize the Middle East. But the Obama White House doesn't seem to care about that. What interests the White House apparently, is minimizing Teheran's animosity towards Washington. If it can convince the mullocracy that Washington is not a threat, then - the thinking goes - perhaps, the buck will stop at the Mediterranean Sea and the Persian Gulf.

This bit of wishful thinking is wrong both theoretically and practically. It fails to take into account Iran's stated intentions and the consequences of its likely behavior for the Middle East, and it ignores the fact that Iran's intentions and actions for the past two decades have not been limited to the Middle East

Liberals Would Rather Subdue Israel than Iran

Juan Cole was hoping Obama would cow Netanyahu into submission:
It is the most fateful encounter of two world leaders since Kennedy met Khrushchev. And Obama absolutely must not allow himself to be cowed or misunderstood as timid by Netanyahu, who is a notorious bully and warmonger. (Bill Clinton complained that Netanyahu when last prime minister thought that he was the superpower). If Obama can cow Netanyahu, his Middle East policy may have a chance. If Netanyahu comes away thinking he can thumb his nose at Washington, the whole Middle East could be in flames by the end of Obama's first term.

It's Iran that Obama needs to cow into submission. But this is not something that juan cole is urging Obama to do. Like I have said before, its risk free to push Israel around rather than those that really threaten regional and global peace and stability, so that's what liberals advise, being the cowards they are.

Islamists Take to the Streets of NYC

Islamist riffraff representing a group called revolutionmuslim.com take to the streets of NYC. Here their nutjob leader rants against America, Christians, Israel and Jews and calls for jihad and the implementation of sharia. To add insult to injury this abomination took place just blocks from ground zero.
h/t Islam in Action

Roger Cohen is at it Again

More inanity from the NY Times' Roger Cohen regarding Israel and Iran:

That point will be made with vigor by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu when he meets with President Obama Monday. After all, when Israelis and Arabs make common cause, surely the danger is real.

Obama should be skeptical, for reasons I will explain. But first those Arab fears.

The Saudis have been incensed by how U.S. policy has favored “the Persians” — as they refer to them — by removing Iran’s Sunni Taliban enemy in Afghanistan and ending Sunni dominance of Iraq. Despite U.S. prodding, the Saudis have not named an ambassador to Iraq and view the prime minister, Nuri Kamal al-Maliki, as an Iranian pawn. Their strategic goal remains an “Iraq that comes back to be a solid Arab country,” as one Saudi official put it to me.

They also express frustration at the U.S. failure to rein in Israel, whose wars against Hezbollah in 2006 and Hamas in Gaza have stirred growing support for these Iran-backed movements. Anger on the Arab street is easily exploited by Iranian leaders using insurgent rhetoric.

Cohen has this backwards. The problem isn’t that Israel hasn’t been reined in but that Israel has not been allowed to fully unleash its military potential on hamas and hezbollah to destroy them.

So here’s what Obama should say to Netanyahu when he says Arab states have identical fears over Iran:
“We’re aware of this, Mr. Prime Minister, which is why we sent Defense Secretary Robert Gates and others to reassure Arab allies. But the U.S. interest is not served by the Mideast status quo. Our interest lies in new region-wide security arrangements that promote a two-state peace, end 30 years of non-communication with Iran, and ultimately afford Israel a brighter future. You can’t build settlements and expect Iran’s influence to diminish.”

When Netanyahu demurs, Obama should add: “And you know what the Arabs tell me in private? That Israeli use of force against Iran would be a disaster. And that it’s impossible to tell Iran it can’t have nukes when Israel has them. They say that’s a double standard. And you know what? They may have a point.”

No Cohen they don’t have a point, you prick. Iran is a rogue terrorist state which has on several occasions threatened to annihilate Israel and Israel is a responsible democracy who never threatened the annihilation of another country. So indeed we SHOULD have a double standard since the two countries are not on an equal moral plane. So why would we treat them the same? Now I would expect the Arab countries to have this view, but I would think a westerner would know better.

Stopping Iran From Getting the Bomb

To those dimwits who think that confronting Iran will make that country more likely to develop nukes, obviously Iran already is determined to have nuclear weapons and the regime can't be any more radical than it already is. This is the type of feckless, short-term thinking that endangers the free world. What do these people believe the situation will be like once Iran has nuclear weapons? It will be far more perilous in the long run than any short-term dangers we face by confronting Iran now. This is exactly the time to act since we are out of all other options. There are no good options, a military strike is simply the least bad option. Even if economic sanctions were to work eventually, it is way too late for that. The europeans, who oppose military force, are the ones who have created a situation in which we are left with no other option but the military, due to their own greed in continuing to do business with Iran all of these years.

Can the United States and its European allies peacefully prevent Iran from developing nuclear weapons? And if not, would Israel try to do so militarily, even if doing so greatly angered President Barack Obama? Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is in Washington today. These questions could well make or break his premiership and Mr. Obama’s presidency.

With increasing vigor and resources, the clerical regime has advanced a massive — and until 2002 clandestine — program for producing fissile material. It’s a good bet that the Europeans have never really believed that Iran could be deterred from developing a bomb by either engagement or sanctions acceptable to all of the EU’s members. Nevertheless, the Europeans have tried, offering generous trade and credit terms while psychologically stroking the Islamic Republic.

Yet as Thérèse Delpech, a leading nonproliferation expert at France’s Atomic Energy Commission, warned last October at a Brookings Institution lecture, “We [the Europeans] have negotiated during five years with the Iranians . . . and we came to the conclusion that they are not interested at all in negotiating, but . . . [only] in buying time for their military program.” In those five years, she also noted, Tehran never implied that if only the Americans were at the table the clerical regime would be amenable to compromise.

We shouldn’t be surprised if the Israelis reach a conclusion at odds with Washington’s near-consensus against pre-emptive strikes on Iran’s nuclear facilities. In 1981, Jerusalem certainly surmised that a raid against Iraq’s Osirak nuclear reactor could make Saddam Hussein furious and that he possessed conventional and unconventional means of getting even. But they went ahead and destroyed the reactor.

The consensus in Israel is just as widespread about the correctness of last year’s strike against the secret North Korean-designed reactor at Dir A-Zur in Syria — a project that may well have had Iranian backing. Prime Minister Ehud Olmert ordered the attack although the Bush administration opposed it. And in 1967, Israelis believed that pre-emptive action saved their nation from an Arab-initiated, multifront offensive that could have proved lethal.

More Crazy muslim Rantings

More proof that islam is a mental illness. A fatwa in Egypt declares that pigs are the descendants of Jews and must be slaughtered. Keep in mind that this creature is a representative of an official government ministry. These are the people our president thinks we should reach out to and this is the country he is going to make a speech from. There is no common ground to be had between the free world and the islamic world. If he is going to address the muslim world, why doesn't the president at least speak out against the virulent and rampant Jew-hatred which goes on there?

According to a May 9, 2009 report in the Jordanian Arabic-language news website www.factjo.com, the superintendent of da'wa affairs at the Egyptian Ministry of Religious Endowments, Sheikh Ahmad 'Ali 'Othman, has issued a fatwa stating that all pigs living today are descended from Jews and must therefore be slaughtered.

Following are excerpts:

Sheikh 'Othman: The Jews that Allah Turned into Swine Were the Forefathers of Today's Pigs

According to the website, Sheikh 'Othman states in his fatwa that all pigs are descended from the Jews whom Allah transformed into apes, swine and worshippers of Satan, and must therefore be slaughtered. He bases this on Koran 5:60: "Shall I point out to you something much worse than this, [as judged] by the treatment it received from Allah? Those who incurred the curse of Allah and His wrath, those of whom some He transformed into apes and swine, those who worshipped Satan - these are [many times] worse in rank, and far more astray from the even path!"

The report states: "'Othman argues that this verse [refers] to the people of Moses, and that [Muslim commentators] Ibn Kathir, Al-Tabari and Al-Qassimi bring proof of this in their books. He [also] points out that there are two schools of thought on this among the Koranic commentators: One opinion states that the Jews whom Allah turned into swine remained that way and died without multiplying, while the other says that they did multiply and that their descendants are still alive today.

"In support [of the latter opinion], the sheikh quotes hadiths in which the Prophet describes one of the signs that will herald the arrival of Judgment Day: The Jews will turn into pigs and will then be swallowed up by the earth."

The report quotes 'Othman as saying: "I personally tend to believe that the pigs living today are descended from those Jews, and that is why Allah forbade us to eat them, saying, 'Forbidden unto you [for food] are carrion and blood and swineflesh [Koran 5:3].' In addition, one of the things that Jesus will do when he returns to earth on Judgment Day is kill all the pigs, and that is proof that they are descended from Jews. All the pigs on earth will be destroyed by Jesus on Judgment Day."

'Othman also says that "he who eats pork is like one who eats the bread of an impure man," and that "the divine religions, [namely] Christianity and Judaism in their undistorted [form], forbid the eating of pork."

According to the report, 'Othman claims that his fatwa is supported by some senior Al-Azhar sheikhs, who are afraid to express their opinion in public. 'Othman is quoted as saying: "I have presented my fatwa to the [Al-Azhar] Academy of Islamic Research, in order to obtain a clear opinion about it, but I have not yet received a [formal] reply. This is because [Al-Azhar] is afraid to issue such a fatwa, which may cause the ulema to be accused of antisemitism."

Al-Azhar Fatwa Committee Head: 'Othman's Statements Are Untrue

The report also presents the response of Sheikh 'Ali Abu Al-Hassan, head of the Al-Azhar Fatwa Committee. He calls 'Othman's statements "untrue," saying: "When Allah punishes a group of people because they have incurred his wrath, the punishment applies only to them. When Allah was angry with the people of Moses, he turned them [and only them] into apes and pigs. It was an unusual punishment, meant to serve as a deterrent to others. But [those apes and pigs] died, and did not multiply, as Sheikh Ahmad 'Ali 'Othman claims."

The Pope Capitulates to islam

Instead of speaking out on behalf of the persecuted Christians of palestinian muslim controlled territories, Pope Benedict stands beside Abbas calling for the creation of what will become a palestinian islamic terror state which will further endanger Christians, and falsely implies Israel is to blame for palestinian suffering when it is the fault of their own terrorist leaders.

Are there any western religious or political leaders willing to tell the truth about islam? Scapegoating Jews is the safe route to take rather than confronting the hostile and violent muslim world.

During Pope Benedict XVI's visit to Bethlehem today, the pontiff did not address rampant Muslim persecution of Christians and stood by as Palestinian leader Mahmoud Abbas lied about the real reason behind local Christians fleeing.

In a major address, the pontiff strongly supported a Palestinian state. Perhaps he does not realize recent history demonstrates such a state may lead to increased persecution and endangerment of Palestinian Christians.

"Mr. President, the Holy See supports the right of your people to a sovereign Palestinian homeland in the land of your forefathers, secure and at peace with its neighbors, within internationally recognized borders," Benedict said upon his arrival in Bethlehem, standing alongside Abbas.

In Bethlehem, where the Christian population has dropped from a majority to less than 20 percent, Benedict delivered a special message of solidarity to the 1.4 million Palestinians isolated in the Hamas-ruled Gaza Strip.

"My heart goes out to the pilgrims from war-torn Gaza: I ask you to bring back to your families and your communities my warm embrace, and my sorrow for the loss, the hardship and the suffering you have had to endure," the pope said in his address at an open-air Mass in Manger Square.

"Please be assured of my solidarity with you in the immense work of rebuilding which now lies ahead, and my prayers that the embargo will soon be lifted," he added.

By referencing the "war-torn Gaza" and necessary "rebuilding," the pope was apparently fingering Israel's recent 22-day confrontation with Hamas as the cause for "the suffering" Gazans "had to endure."

He said nothing, however, of the suffering of Gaza's 3,000 Christians since Hamas took over that territory in 2007. Benedict might well have decried the many bombings, shootings and other Islamist attacks against Gazan Christian establishments, the brutal murder of the territory's only Bible-store owner, or the regular intimidation and persecution of Christians there. His solidarity with Gazan Christians might have given them some much-needed strength.

Benedict, speaking from Bethlehem – the site of rampant Muslim persecution of Christians – did not once renounce the Islamic violence there, either. Instead, the pope stood beside Abbas as the Palestinian leader deceptively pointed to a concrete separation barrier in Bethlehem and blamed that barrier, as well as Israeli "occupation," for the plight of Christians.

Why Israel Should not Join the EU

Despite Europe's hostility toward Israel, its increasing anti-Semitism and islamization, for some bizarre reason the majority of Israeli Jews have a favorable opinion of the European Union and are enthusiastic about joining it. This of course as Caroline Glick explains, would seriously endanger Israeli sovereignty. For example EU laws would supersede Israeli laws and EU courts would have the power to enforce their rulings against Israeli soldiers and military leaders for "war crimes". Despite the fact that this is the continent which gave us nazism, the holocaust, fascism and communism, for some reason it is viewed as enlightened and progressive by liberals.

The more menacing muslims become in Europe, the more European hatred and scapegoating of Jews increases. The Europeans being the cowards they are, know it's safe to take out their frustrations on Jews as opposed to the danger of standing up to muslims.

Israelis are wild about Europe. A poll carried out by the Konrad Adenauer Foundation last month showed that a whopping 69 percent of Israelis, and 76% of Israeli Jews, would like for Israel to join the European Union. Sixty percent of Israelis have a favorable view of the EU.

This poll's most obvious message is that as far as Europe is concerned, Israelis suffer from unrequited love. A 2003 Pew survey of 15 EU countries showed that 59% of Europeans consider Israel the greatest threat to world peace. A poll taken in Germany the following year showed that 68% of Germans believe that Israel is pursuing a war of extermination against the Palestinians and 51% said that there is no difference in principle between Israel's treatment of the Palestinians and German treatment of Jews during the Holocaust.

And it isn't simply Israel that they hate. They don't like Jews very much either. In an empirical study published in 2006, Professors Edward Kaplan and Charles Small of Yale University demonstrated a direct link between hatred for Jews and extreme anti-Israel positions. A recent poll bears out the fact that levels of hostility toward Israel rise with levels of anti-Semitism.

According to a 2008 Pew survey, anti-Semitic feelings in five EU countries - Spain, Britain, France, Germany and Poland - rose nearly 50% between 2005 and 2008. Whereas in 2005, some 21% of people polled acknowledged they harbor negative feelings toward Jews, by last year the proportion of self-proclaimed anti-Semites in these countries had risen to 30%. In Spain levels of anti-Semitism more than doubled, from 21% in 2005 to 46% in 2008.

Not surprisingly, increased hatred of Jews has been accompanied by increased violence against Jews. Just last week, for instance, three men assaulted Israel's ambassador in Spain Rafi Shotz as he and his wife walked home from a soccer game. They followed after him and called out, "dirty Jew," "Jew bastard," and "Jew murderer." A crowd witnessed the assault, but no one rose to their defense

More Leftist and islamist Inanity on Campus

So you get shouted down as a "racist" on college campuses for simply reading off the genocidal intentions toward Jews as stated in the hamas charter or for reading off UNICEF and WHO data which shows palestinians to have a lower infant mortality rate than Arabs in other Middle East countries.

In closing, Mr. Seligman read aloud from Article 7 of the Hamas charter (see below). He was interrupted twice by shouts and jeers from the audience. Many people yelled “racist”. The moderator intervened both times, expressing respect for their feelings and talking about the pain he has experienced during his anti-racism work (implying, to my mind, that Mr. Seligman was a racist).

When Mr. Seligman finished speaking, one of my friends stood up, clapped and said, “He speaks the truth”. Some audience members responded by yelling “racist” at my friend.

As one of the panelists said at the end, this wasn’t a debate, it was merely an opportunity for some people to get together and bash Israel.

If yesterday’s audience and the farce disguised as a debate present a true reflection of the state of Canadian universities, then we are all in big trouble.

In the same way the pro-Palestinian /anti-Israel / anti-America / anti-capitalist groups have broadened the word “apartheid” to mean any political or legal system they don’t like, they have also broadened the word “racist” to mean anyone with whom they disagree.

“Dr. Karmi. From what you have replied to the previous questioner I conclude that you see the only solution being the end of the State of Israel. (The audience cheered). I shall address my question to the medical side of your presentation. You sited statistics to demonstrate that the Israeli occupation has adversely affected the health of Palestinians in the West Bank and Gaza. Specifically you stated that the infant mortality is 27/1000 vs. 3.6 in Israel. The latest UNICEF statistics show that although the infant mortality among Palestinians is greater than in Israel it is lower than in Egypt (28/1000), Lebanon (27/1000), Jordan (22/1000). The IM among Palestinians according to UNICEF data is 21/1000. Also the latest World Health Organization statistics show that Palestinians in the territories have an ASMR (Age & Sex Standardized Mortality Rate per 100,000) that is the lowest among Arab countries in the Middle East. Saudi Arabia has an ASMR of 1075, Egypt 898, Algeria 794, Lebanon 73 and the Palestinian territories 698.5. It appears that occupation has resulted in an improvement in the health care of Palestinians as measured by the WHO and UNICEF. Why do you claim to the contrary”?

The audience started to boo me half way through my question at which point Dr. Hamil reminded them that this is a place where all opinions are allowed.

Dr. Karmi’s response was as follows: “Why compare infant mortality with other countries such as Egypt or Indian? Israel is the occupying power and it has a responsibility for health care in the territories it occupies and the infant mortality among Palestinians should not be higher than for Israelis.”

At this point things turned ugly. A woman whom I had encountered at the CJPME event stood up and addressed me rather than the speaker. She stated that she is Jewish. She said, “You are Dr. Samuel. I can’t understand how you can speak on the side of the Israelis who are committing horrible crimes. I am a Jew and I am ashamed of what Israel is doing”. She went on and on as the audience cheered.

Then another man stood up and stated that every year in Israel the Jews hold Holocaust remembrance ceremonies. “And they have a right to do that”. But how can they commit these same crimes. He then turned to me and said, “I have seen you before. You must be the most stupid man I have ever met. You are a racist”. At which point some in the audience echoed, “Racist”.

I stood up and said, “Look at yourselves. You are calling me a racist because I presented statistics from the World Health Organization and UNICEF. What was racist about that”? Several people called out, “You are a racist”. I said, “You people are interested in only talking to yourself” and as I walked out a man sitting along the aisle said to me, “You are a racist. I am a Jew and I can smell a racist”. Another woman beside him said, “You are a racist”.

And this doesn't just take place on campuses, this mind-set is on display from the msm and entertainers like that whack-job Jeanine Garafalo who will accuse you of being racist for merely opposing Obama's policies. I’ve come to the conclusion that these leftists suffer from mental illness. There’s no other explanation for their deranged and illogical rantings.

Liberal Jews vs Israel

Candidly Speaking: Obama, Netanyahu and American Jews

May. 11, 2009
Isi Leibler , THE JERUSALEM POST
It was with mixed feelings that I returned from New York after extensive discussions with a wide range of American Jewish leaders.
The outcome of Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu's forthcoming meeting with President Barack Obama will indicate the probable direction of the relationship with our most crucial ally and arms supplier. Optimists predict that a conflict is unlikely to materialize now. They argue that Obama has sufficient on his plate with the economic crisis, Afghanistan, North Korea and Iran without seeking a confrontation with Israel which could also lead to domestic friction. Besides, public opinion is still overwhelmingly pro-Israel and Congress remains strongly supportive.

Yet the accumulation of negative signals over the past weeks is highly disconcerting. Whatever Obama's genuine personal views may be, clearly he is strongly pressured by left-wing Democrats and Europeans to adopt a tougher, even anti-Israel approach. Some of his key aides blame Israel for the region's problems and believe that the only way for the US to build bridges with Islam is to distance itself from the Jewish state. Obama's new policies of "engaging" with rogue states and striving to modify the behavior of tyrants by persuasion have ominous parallels with the appeasement policies of Europe in the 1930s. It is probably not coincidental that the Czech Republic is the European country most supportive of Israel.

To date, Netanyahu has not put a foot wrong. But his real test will be Washington where he will face the awesome challenge of trying to achieve an understanding with Obama over Iran and the Palestinians while simultaneously resisting pressures for concessions which could further erode our security.

IN THIS CONTEXT, the support of American Jewry is enormously important. Obama would presumably seek to avoid alienating his Jewish constituency, 80 percent of whom voted for him and also contributed more than 50% of Democrat campaign funding. However should Jews be perceived as being ambivalent, or worse, hostile towards the Israeli government, there is little doubt that this would dramatically influence his approach.

Regrettably, in addition to a decline in enthusiasm for Israel from a new generation for whom the Holocaust and struggle to create a Jewish state are dim memories, the Israeli relationship with American Jews over the past decades, has also undergone considerable erosion. Successive leaders have neglected to nurture the American Jewish lay leadership, concentrating instead primarily on wooing rich Jews as donors for their political or personal projects. Jewish lay leaders are largely unknown and, aside from AIPAC, national Jewish political activism is concentrated primarily in the hands of three highly capable but aging professionals - Abe Foxman of the Anti-Defamation League, David Harris of the American Jewish Committee and Malcolm Hoenlein of the Presidents Conference.

In addition, aside from the negative impact of the general financial meltdown, American Jews have been traumatized by an escalation of virulent anti-Israel and anti-Semitic outbursts, reflected even in the purportedly reputable media. Anti-Israeli hysteria on the campuses has mushroomed and campaigns to boycott Israel have intensified. Ominously, American Jews, especially after the Freeman and AIPAC "espionage" imbroglios, are now also being accused of harboring dual loyalties.

JEWISH LEADERS are loath to openly express their concerns. But off record, many despairingly predict a Jewish head-on clash over Israel with the most popular US president since Franklin Roosevelt. Their concerns are exacerbated by the behavior of key Jewish officials in the administration who privately proclaim that they would not flinch from a major confrontation with the Jewish state and predict that most American Jews continue to venerate Obama and will support him.

So these liberal democratic Jews, if placed in the position of having to choose between Israel or Obama and the democrats, would stand squarely on the side of that bastard occupying the White House and his stalinist party. These so-called Jews are worse than the kapos of WW2 who at least had the excuse that they literally had guns pointed at their heads forcing them to cooperate with the nazis. Emanual and the rest of the modern day kapos within the democratic party would happily and without remorse sell Israel down the river, put their fellow Jews in Israel in grave danger, in order to maintain their elite status within the party and left wing circles. Meanwhile I'll stick with the evangelical Christians, better friends to Jews and Israel than many of our own. And the evangelicals are the very people who liberal Jews loathe and reject while sucking up to our muslim and leftist enemies.

Schoolgirls Poisoned in Afghanistan

Taliban scum poison dozens of high school girls in Afghanistan because these sub-human beasts fear that girls and women, having been educated, might just have the ability to provide a far better life for themselves than being chattel and sex slaves to muslim jihadist filth. They simply can't give girls the opportunity to choose freedom over the slavery of islam. We need to give our soldiers free reign to snuff out the taliban and jihadis everywhere en masse.

CHARIKAR, Afghanistan - Doctors are investigating whether dozens of girls were poisoned at a high school in northern Afghanistan on Monday after 61 girls went to the hospital because of sudden illness, officials said. Dr. Khalil Farhagga said the 61 students and one teacher from a school in Parwan – one province north of Kabul – complained of irritability, tearing and confusion. Several girls also passed out.

The mass hospitalization comes about two weeks after a similar incident in Parwan, where dozens of girls were hospitalized in late April after being sickened by what Afghan officials said were strong fumes or a possible poison gas cloud.

Conservative Afghans oppose education for girls, who were not allowed to attend school under the 1996-2001 Taliban regime.

Officials on Monday sent blood samples to Kabul and to the main U.S. base in Bagram to test whether some form of poison was to blame, said Farhagga, the director of Charikar’s hospital.

al azhar mosque

Why do liberals put so much stock in America gaining the approval of hate-filled, primitive barbarians? Why on earth would we want them to like us? It says a lot about Hussein Obama that al azhar mosque, this bastion of sharia and hate speech against Jews, Christians and other non-muslims welcomes him into the fold. Even if Americans don't get it, the muslim world knows he is really one of them. No American president should speak there or at any other mosque for that matter, since just about all of them engage in these kinds of activities. We need to stop pretending islam is like any other religion instead of the evil ideology it really is.

Dhimmitude Rising: Obama Invited to Speak at Al Azhar Mosque - the ‘Vatican’ of Sunni Sharia Islam

by Jerry Gordon, The Iconoclast, May 11, 2009

Al Azhar Mosque in Egypt
When the White House announced President Obama long-awaited speech to the Muslim ummah, the venue had not been determined. As noted in this WorldNetDaily report by Aaron Klein, an invitation has been extended by the Grand Mufti of the Al Azhar Mosque – ancient Egyptian center of Sunni jurisprudence and Sharia theology. Klein noted:

The invitation to speak from Egypt’s Al Azhar mosque follows an announcement over this past weekend that Obama will travel to Egypt next month to deliver his promised address to the Muslim world.
According to Al-Masri Al-Yawm, a state-run Egyptian newspaper, Grand Mufti Ali Gomaa and other scholars
from Egypt’s Al Azhar University invited Obama to use the mosque as venue for the president’s upcoming visit, explaining it would promote a culture of dialogue between Islam and the West.

Al Azhar University is the most respected Sunni Islamic learning center in the world and the second oldest degree-granting school. Clerics at the university’s attendant mosque decide Islamic sharia law matters for Sunni Muslims internationally.

It is highly unusual for a non-Muslim to speak at the mosque. An Egyptian official, contacted by WND, could not think of any non-Muslim world leader who had received an invitation.

Al Azhar Mosque and University is considered the equivalent of the ‘Vatican’ in Sunni Islam. It is the bastion of Sharia law. It is also an institution that harbors principals like Grand Imam Sheik Tantawi whose hateful articulation of Koranic proscriptions of Jews, Christians and other infidels should make President Obama uneasy to be speaking there.

Why would Hussein Obama be uneasy speaking at that mosque when he didn’t feel the least bit uneasy listening to jeremiah wright’s hate speech for 20 years? I’m quite sure obama will feel right at home in the al azhar mosque.

Israel Blamed for the Plight of Mideast Christians

At Time’s Mideast blog, reporter Andrew Lee Butters blames the creation of Israel for the plight of the Mideast’s Christians. This report is outrageous and shocking even for a publication as slimy as Time magazine. Does that mean Israel is also responsible for the plight of Egypt's Coptic Christians, the fact that Christians are forbidden to worship in Saudi Arabia, Christians being slaughtered in Africa, persecuted in Pakistan and virtually every muslim country? Perhaps Israel is also to blame for Darfur or the executions of homosexuals in Iran or that reporter being kidnapped and other dissidents who are imprisoned and tortured in Iran. This is an absolutely vile, disgusting and extremely misleading scurrilous report. This after all is the same magazine which, during the Gaza conflict, had placed a picture on its cover of an Israeli flag above a barbed wired fence. Unfortunately millions of Christian readers of Time magazine will come away with the false impression that Israel is a country which persecutes Christians when ironically it is the ONLY country in the Mideast where Christians have full religious freedom as well as being the only country in the Mideast in which the Christian population has INCREASED. Is there anything the msm will hold muslims accountable for and is there anything terrible which goes on in the region in which Israel is not to blame for? Now it's even Israel's fault how muslim countries treat their own internal Christian populations and probably everything else bad which goes on inside muslim countries. How about this for a concept, just maybe the blame lies with the regimes of these countries or perhaps there is something inherently evil about the arab-islamic culture which is predicated on hatred and violence. Just how much stock do arabs own in Time-Warner? Every decent American ought to boycott Time magazine. This article is beyond the pale.

And while support for the modern revival of the ancient Biblical nation runs deep among many Christians in America and Europe, the creation of Israel has been a disaster for Christians in the Middle East. Many of the Palestinian refugees who fled or were forced from their homes in 1948 -- never to be allowed back -- were Christians. The flood of Palestinian refugees into Lebanon helped spark a civil war between Muslims and Christians there. And the ongoing occupation of the West Bank is strangling the life out of those Christian communities that are left. A UN report released a week ago said that the Palestinian West Bank town of Bethlehem – Christ's birthplace and a major stop on the Pope's visit – is now almost totally controlled by Israel.

Obama May Speak From Egyptian Mosque

Obama has been invited to speak at a top mosque in Egypt.Take note that no non-muslim world leader has ever been invited to speak at this mosque. So what does this tell us about obama and his true religious affiliation? How about obama turn down this invitation and instead speak at a Coptic Christian church in Egypt, and express solidarity with that persecuted minority group? But then again that would defeat the entire purpose of speaking in Egypt, which for obama is to genuflect before the muslim world, and speaking inside a church in Egypt and speaking out about the plight of the Coptic Christians would enrage the muslims.

TEL AVIV, Israel – The grand mufti of Egypt has invited President Obama to address Muslims around the globe from one of the most important mosques in the Islamic world.

The invitation to speak from Egypt's Al Azhar mosque follows an announcement over this past weekend that Obama will travel to Egypt next month to deliver his promised address to the Muslim world.

According to Al-Masri Al-Yawm, a state-run Egyptian newspaper, Grand Mufti Ali Gomaa and other scholars from Egypt's Al Azhar University invited Obama to use the mosque as venue for the president's upcoming visit, explaining it would promote a culture of dialogue between Islam and the West.

Al Azhar University is the most respected Sunni Islamic learning center in the world and the second oldest degree-granting school. Clerics at the university's attendant mosque decide Islamic sharia law matters for Sunni Muslims internationally.

The university opened studies in AD 975. It was founded by the Fatimid dynasty of Egypt, which is descended from the daughter of the Islamic figure Muhammad.

It is highly unusual for a non-Muslim to speak at the mosque. An Egyptian official, contacted by WND, could not think of any non-Muslim world leader who had received an invitation.

Pakistan Has No Right to Exist

I wonder why there is no debate about whether Pakistan has the right to exist. Here's a country which came into being the same year as Israel, carved out from India because the muslims demanded a separate state and refused to live in peace with Hindus. At the time of its founding, Hindus and Buddhists comprised 20-25% of Pakistan's population and it has since dwindled down to less than 2% today. I wonder why that is? Obviously because they were ethnically cleansed, forced to convert to islam or fled in terror. Pakistan is an unstable radical islamic state armed with nuclear weapons and a state sponsor of terrorism. Yet the miscreants who bemoan the establishment of the free, democratic state of Israel don't dare claim that Pakistan should never have been created. And they don't bemoan the billions we send to Pakistan even as it undermines our war on islamic terrorism. It is only the Jewish state who's very right to exist is open to debate. There is no such debate regarding the world's most repressive, unstable, terrorist nations.

Pakistan basically a Taliban state

By SALIM MANSUR

There is frantic concern in Washington and elsewhere that Pakistan has reached its tipping point and might succumb to the Taliban forces entrenched barely 80 km (50 miles) from the capital, Islamabad.

But the concern is misleading. A country of some 160 million Muslims is not about to be overrun by the Taliban. On the contrary, Pakistan is more or less a Taliban state shaped by its origin and history.

This is the unpalatable reality that cannot be publicly discussed in Washington, London or Ottawa due to diplomatic niceties. It is also complicated by the patron-client relationship the Pakistani elite pursued with the U.S. over the past six decades as a means to counter India’s dominant position in the region.

Pakistan was forcefully established by an elite on the basis of an exclusivist and bigoted idea that since India’s Muslims constitute a “nation” they deserve a state of their own.

The perversion of Islam into a nationalist ideology hugely aggravated communal politics in undivided India that would not end with the partitioning of the subcontinent in 1947. Muhammad Ali Jinnah, the founder of Pakistan, ruthlessly planned this division when he called for direct action — communal blood-letting — by his supporters which led to the massive Hindu-Muslim riots known as the Great Calcutta killings of August 1946.

This act of terror made certain that trust between Hindus and Muslims was irreparably broken, and Britain was compelled to depart by partitioning India.

To recall this history is to have an inkling of the sort of a country that emerged as a result of terrorism followed by ethnic cleansing of the non-Muslim population — most Hindus and Sikhs left or were forcefully driven out from present-day Pakistan.

Subsequently, the Pakistani elite declared the Ahmadiyyas — a small peace-loving sect of minority Muslims — to be non-Muslims, and persecuted them as the harbinger of further bigotry to be unleashed in the slide of Jinnah’s Pakistan into a Taliban state.
Click here to find out more!

The economic exploitation of former East Pakistan (now Bangladesh) by the ruling elite began with Mr. Jinnah imposing Urdu as the national language on Bengali Muslims with their own rich linguistic and cultural tradition. Eventually the two halves of Pakistan would tear apart in 1971 following civil war and systematic massacre of Bengalis by the Pakistani military.

Since 1971 the unremorseful and bloody-minded ruling elite of Pakistan — civil and military — pushed Pakistan deeper into a dependency alliance with Saudi Arabia.

It meant importing the Saudi version of Islam — Wahhabism — and its spread deep across the country through the rapid expansion of religious schools and mosques funded by money from the Gulf countries. The products of these schools and mosques are the Taliban “jihadis,” or holy-warriors, who set forth for Afghanistan in the war against the former Soviet Union.

Steel fist

The Pakistani elite is corrupt, opportunistic and ruthless. Behind the conniving smile of the civilian politician is the steel fist of the military with nuclear weapons.

The fear of Taliban acquiring Pakistan’s nuclear arsenal is manufactured by the elite to garner diplomatic and financial support from the West.

This is extortion brazenly practised by the elite responsible for making Pakistan into a rogue state with its people crushed by poverty. It is this reality that makes for terror and war in the region, and threatens peace beyond.

Obama to Speak in Egypt

Obama continues on his world apology tour. His latest outreach to the muslim world will be a visit to Egypt where he will assure muslims we are not at war with islam (though the muslim world certainly is at war with us), and pretend that islam has made great contributions to mankind. I don't expect that the president will speak out for the persecuted Coptic Christians of Egypt.

President Obama will make his promised speech to the Muslim world from Egypt, a White House official said on Friday.

Obama pledged during the campaign to address the Muslim world from a Muslim capital within the first few months of taking office. Picking a site proved challenging for a range of reasons — from diplomacy to security — and the decision took longer than expected, with Obama commissioning options from a research team.

Having settled on Egypt, the White House will announce soon that he is adding a stop there to an upcoming overseas trip, presumably his early June visit to Normandy for the anniversary of D-Day. ...

Mubarak, who will meet with Obama at the White House later this month, was so angered by the democracy push that he did not make his annual spring visit to Washington for all of Bush’s second term. The Obama administration, in its budget released this week, has already loosened restrictions imposed by Bush to ensure some U.S. aid went to democracy groups not approved by the Egyptian authorities.

Breeding Jihadists

National Geographic did a feature on mariam farhat, a "palestinian" mother who sent three of her sons on suicide missions against Israelis and wants to sacrifice more. As a result, this hideous creature is a heroine in "palestinian" society and was elected to parliament. These are the depraved subhumans that Israel is being pressured to make concessions to as though its possible for Israel to peacefully coexist with a barbaric primitive culture which celebrates sacrificing the lives of its own children in order to kill Jews.

Obama Wants to Strip Israel of its Nukes

What a bastard obama is. This was predicted that he would pressure Israel to sign the Nuclear Non-Proliferation treaty. Of course Israel and Iran should not be treated the same since they are not on the same moral plain. While Israel is a responsible free, democratic nation which has never made threats to wipe out its neighbors, Iran is a state sponsor of terrorism which has threatened to wipe Israel off the map. For that matter India also should not be equated with Pakistan. There is a difference between India having nukes and an unstable islamic state like Pakistan, where the taliban can take over at any moment, having a nuclear arsenal.

This is the danger of having morally ambigious people in charge in Washington who won't make such distinctions. Because Obama doesn’t have the guts to confront Iran, he is throwing Israel under the bus because its easier and without risk. We are a superpower which can easily take out Iran’s nuclear facilities. It’s only a matter of our leadership lacking the political will.

Israel should join the nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT), a pact intended to limit the spread of nuclear weapons, a top US official said Tuesday.

“Universal adherence to the NPT itself, including by India, Israel, Pakistan and North Korea…remains a fundamental objective of the United States,” Assistant Secretary of State Rose Gottemoeller was quoted by Reuters as saying at a meeting of NPT signatories.

Gottemoeller would not say whether the US intended to press Israel to join the treaty.

Former prime minister Ariel Sharon’s chief strategist, Dov Weisglass, said Gottemoeller’s comments were very alarming.

“If these statements indicate a change in American policy on this issue, I believe this may be the most worrisome development for Israel’s security in many years,” he told Army Radio.
