“One lives in hope that music is more than mere noise, filling up idle time, whether intending to elate or lament,” Costello wrote in a message posted on his Web site, in which he discussed his decision to cancel his June 30 and June 31 Tel Aviv concerts.
“Then there are occasions when merely having your name added to a concert schedule may be interpreted as a political act that resonates more than anything that might be sung and it may be assumed that one has no mind for the suffering of the innocent.”
How about the suffering of innocent Israelis at the hands of islamic terrorists?
Costello said he believed that some in his audience would “question the policies of their government on settlement and deplore conditions that visit intimidation, humiliation or much worse on Palestinian civilians in the name of national security.”
There's that loaded term "settlement" again. Why do self-proclaimed human rights activists promote a "no-Jews" allowed policy to be put in place in Israel?
Has costello ever visited and actually seen what conditions the "palestinians" live under? They actually live quite well. But whatever intimidation or humiliation that is perpetrated upon the "palestinians" is by their own terrorist rulers. He then blithely dismisses Israeli security concerns by saying "in the name of national security" as though no such danger really exists despite years of rocket attacks, suicide bombings and other acts of attempted terrorism. This guy is just repeating politically correct leftist talking points without any real understanding of the situation at all.
He also acknowledged the Palestinians’ “many despicable acts of violence perpetrated in the name of liberation.
No, these despicable acts of violence are done in the name of islam with the goal being an end to Jewish existence in Israel because a Jewish state and Jewish self-determination is an affront to islam. Costello reveals he is completely ignorant of what this conflict is about. At this point in his career, Elvis Costello ought to be glad he gets asked to perform anywhere.
“It has been necessary to dial out the falsehoods of propaganda, the double game and hysterical language of politics, the vanity and self-righteousness of public communiqués from cranks in order to eventually sift through my own conflicted thoughts,” Costello wrote, concluding that “Sometimes a silence in music is better than adding to the static.”
Anti-Israel activism is simply the latest trend that the entertainment industry has latched onto such as wearing che guevara t-shirts, never mind that he was a murderer. And anti South African apartheid activism was trendy in the 80's. Yet today none of these people have anything to say about the murders of white farmers in South Africa. These people are sheep, incapable of independent thought or thinking deeply about any issues.
