Pollard and Jews in the Military

We are being told that it is beyond the pale to profile. Yet there is one ethnic and religious group which is being profiled and held in suspicion by our military and intelligence agencies. That group would be Jews, because they might be supportive of Israel. Apparently our government thinks it is at war with Israel rather than islamic jihadis. And even though there have been attacks or attempted attacks against us by muslims in the name of islam, even by those within our own military, it hasn't resulted in increased suspicion or denial of security clearances for muslims serving in intelligence or the military. And non-Jews who have been convicted of disclosing secrets to foreign governments have received far less prison time than Jonathan Pollard.

Judaeophobia vs Islamophobia

Posted by Phyllis Chesler on Dec 31st, 2010 and filed under FrontPage.

Although he was loyal to a Middle Eastern country, the American military hired him as an intelligence officer and translator anyway—partly because he knew an important Middle East language. Nevertheless, he was a poor choice. This man passed classified documents to “insurgents” in Iraq who were battling American forces; he also had conversations with members of Al Qaeda and kept their documents on his computer.

His name—one of five aliases—is Noureddine Malki. He pretended to be from Lebanon, the persecuted son of a Muslim father and a Christian mother, and on this basis allegedly sought and received asylum in America, naturalized citizenship, and a job as an Arabic translator for the Army. He received top secret clearance and was working in Iraq where he took bribes from various Sunni sheikhs and passed classified information on to them.

He was caught, tried and, in 2008, sentenced to—ten years. Currently, Noureddine Malki (if that is his real name) communicates with people from his jail cell. He claims that he was once held in solitary for six months and wants the ACLU to investigate.

Jonathan Pollard was held in solitary for seven years and has been held captive for twenty five years.

Pollard has absolutely no blood on his hands. He has been scapegoated for the considerable crimes of the non-Jewish American Soviet spy Aldrich Ames. Unlike Noureddine Malki and Ames, Pollard passed secrets to an American ally, not to a terrorist group with which America was or is now at war.

Since I published my first piece about Pollard, I have done some further research. The facts strongly suggest that Pollard is primarily guilty of being a Jew and a Zionist. The fact that he also behaved recklessly, criminally or, some might say, heroically on behalf of America’s ally, Israel, is almost beside the point.

Why was Pollard given so long a sentence? Why was Noureddine Malki given so short a sentence?

Is racial ( racist) profiling the issue? Is Judeophobia more of an issue than Islamophobia is?

Radio and television host Zev Brenner, who interviewed me recently about my previous Pollard piece, has been calling for congressional hearings on the “racial profiling of Jews in American military intelligence and in the CIA and FBI.” This is a hot issue and a hotly contested one. (I may return to this in another column.) Brenner called my attention to the cases of David Tenenbaum and Adam Ciralsky, both of whom were targeted as pro-Israel and/or as observant Jews.

In 1997, Tenenbaum was wrongfully accused of being an Israeli spy. According to the Defense Department’s own report, Tenenbaum was specifically targeted because he was an observant Orthodox Jew: “It was well known that Mr. Tenenbaum was Jewish, lived his religious beliefs and by his actions appeared to have a close affinity for Israel,” the report said. “We believe that Mr. Tenenbaum was subjected to unusual and unwelcome scrutiny because of his faith and ethnic background, a practice that would undoubtedly fit a definition of discrimination.” The 62-page report added: “Mr. Tenenbaum experienced religious discrimination when his Judaism was weighed as a significant factor in the decision to submit him for an increase in his security clearance.” The investigation failed to turn up any evidence against Tenenbaum.

The report also explains that one of the reasons Tenenbaum was hired in the first place was because he speaks Hebrew—obviously another Middle Eastern language.

Here’s another example of the kind of racial (and/or racist) profiling I’m talking about. In 1999, Adam Ciralsky was placed on unpaid leave because he had contacts with Israelis. His “ties” to Israel included supporting Jewish causes like the United Jewish Appeal and buying Israel bonds. Eleven years later, Ciralsky’s lawsuit still has not been resolved.

One of the CIA documents accusing Ciralsky said: “I think that it is important that he state openly [that] he and his family support…the Likud Party,” one document says. “He may simply be withholding on this issue, because it paints him and his family as extreme supporters of Israel’s hard-liners in the Likud Party, and he wishes to avoid being seen as such a lover of Israel.” Another accused him of having a “wealthy daddy” who supports Israeli causes.

The Wretchedness of the Guardian

The Guardian once again exposes its moral depravity. If not granting recognition to a “palestinian” terror state makes America a rogue nation which stands out and apart from the rest of the world, then I’m proud to be considered a “rogue”. The fact that 80%-90% of the world recognizes “palestine” does not confer legitimacy upon such an entity. There are people who have far greater claims to statehood than the so-called “palestinians”, such as the Kurds based on being a people with a distinct ethnic, culture and language. Yet the world isn’t clamoring for the creation of Kurdistan. A combination of dependency on Arab oil, fear of islamic terrorism and yes of course anti-Semitism is the reason “palestine” has worldwide support. There is no historical, ethnic or religious justification for such a state. As to the notion of recognizing “palestine” “with its full pre-1967 borders”, no such borders existed since no state of “palestine” ever existed. Those areas were controlled by Jordan and Egypt respectively. The reason America has been an admirable country is because we stand for freedom and individual liberty. However, in the perverse mind of the writer of this editorial, the only way America can be admirable again and stand for human rights is to abandon a democratic ally and join the rest of the morally bankrupt world in favoring a gang of terrorists instead. In the perverse minds of the advocates for ”palestine”, to be for human rights is to support the creation of an islamic terror state under sharia law at the expense of a free and democratic Israel which respects human rights.

On Palestine, the US is a rogue state

Nations covering 80-90% of the world’s population recognise Palestine as a state. The US, subservient to Israel, stands out

John Whitbeck

On 17 December, Bolivia extended diplomatic recognition to the state of Palestine within its full pre-1967 borders (all of the Gaza Strip and the West Bank, including East Jerusalem). Coming soon after the similar recognitions by Brazil and Argentina, Bolivia’s recognition brought to 106 the number of UN member states recognising the state of Palestine, whose independence was proclaimed on 15 November, 1988.

While still under foreign belligerent occupation, the state of Palestine possesses all the customary international law criteria for sovereign statehood. No portion of its territory is recognised by any other country (other than Israel) as any other country’s sovereign territory and, indeed, Israel has only asserted sovereignty over a small portion of its territory – expanded East Jerusalem – leaving sovereignty over the rest both literally and legally uncontested.

In this context, it may be enlightening to consider the quality as well as the quantity of the states extending diplomatic recognition.

Of the world’s nine most populous states, eight (all except the US) recognise the state of Palestine. Of the world’s 20 most populous states, 15 (all except the US, Japan, Mexico, Germany and Thailand) recognise the state of Palestine.

By contrast, the 72 UN member states that currently recognise the Republic of Kosovo as an independent state include only one of the nine most populous states (the US) and only four of the 20 most populous states (the US, Japan, Germany and Turkey).

When, in July, the international court of justice held that Kosovo’s unilateral declaration of independence did not violate international law because international law is silent on the subject of the legality of declarations of independence (meaning that no declarations of independence violate international law and all are “legal”, albeit subject to the political decisions of sovereign states to recognise or not the independence declared), the US responded by calling on all countries that had not already recognised Kosovo to do so promptly. Five months later, only three more have seen fit to do so – Honduras, Kiribati and Tuvalu.

If the Arab League were now to call on the minority of UN member states that have not already recognised Palestine to do so promptly, it is certain that the response would be far superior (both in quantity and in quality) to the response to the recent American appeal on behalf of Kosovo – and the Arab League should do so.

Notwithstanding that states encompassing between 80% and 90% of the world’s population (by my rough calculations) recognise the state of Palestine, while states encompassing only between 10% and 20% of the world’s population recognise the Republic of Kosovo, the western media (and much of the non-western media as well) act as though Kosovo’s independence were an accomplished fact while Palestine’s independence is only an aspiration that can never be realised without Israeli-American consent; and much of international public opinion (including, apparently, the Palestinian leadership in Ramallah) has – at least until recently – permitted itself to be brainwashed into thinking and acting accordingly.

As in most aspects of international relations, it is not the nature of the act (or crime) that matters but, rather, who is doing it to whom. Palestine was conquered, and is still occupied 43 years later, by the military forces of Israel. What most of the world (including the UN and even five EU member states) still regards as the Serbian province of Kosovo was conquered and is still occupied, 11 years later, by the military forces of Nato; the American flag is flown there at least as widely as the Kosovo flag and the capital, Pristina, boasts a Bill Clinton Boulevard and a larger-than-life-size statue of the former American president.

Might makes right, at least in the hearts and minds of the mighty, including most western decision makers and opinion formers.

Meanwhile, as a perpetual “peace process” appears suddenly threatened by peaceful recourse to international law and international organisations, the US House of Representatives has adopted, by a unanimous voice vote, a resolution drafted by the American Israel Public Affairs Committee (Aipac) calling on President Obama not to recognise the state of Palestine and to veto any effort by Palestine to obtain UN membership.

Western politicians and the western media customarily apply the term “international community” to the United States and whatever countries are willing to publicly support it on a given issue, and apply the term “rogue state” to any country that actively resists Israeli-American global domination.

By its slavish subservience to Israel – as reflected yet again, both in the absence of a single brave voice raised against this new House resolution and in the Obama administration’s recently rejected offer of a huge military and diplomatic bribe to Israel in reward for a mere 90-day suspension of its illegal colonisation programme – the United States has effectively excluded itself from the true international community (redefined to refer to the great majority of mankind) and become a true rogue state, acting in consistent and flagrant contempt of both international law and fundamental human rights.

One might hope that the United States could still pull back from the abyss and recover its own independence, but all signs are pointing in the opposite direction. It is a sad ending for a once admirable country.

Lies About the EDL

Unfortunately the Israeli embassy in England jumped on the bandwagon to condemn the only pro-Israel group in England, the English Defense League.

Pathetic, stupid and typical of Jewish leaders to shun and condemn allies in a futile attempt to temper the violent Jew-hatred of implacable enemies.

Shouldn’t Israeli officials, given the British media’s demonization and false accusations regarding Israel itself, consider that what’s being claimed about the EDL is false? Why does our side allow the islamic-leftist alliance to always frame the debate and leave us on the defensive?

Via Israpundit:
The English Defense League

by Brian of London, INN

The EDL has attracted attention in Israel and the UK. We leave the reader to judge for himself.

The English Defence League (EDL) has attracted some attention in Israel because of the incongruity of non-Jews waving Israeli flags at demonstrations dubbed “far right” by the press and the Israeli Embassy in London’s virtually unprecedented step of condemning a pro-Israel local group in another country. The irony is compounded by the fact that this happened immediately after the EDL held a large pro-Israel rally outside the embassy.

This distancing was presumably motivated by the attacks on the EDL in much of the British media and fear that failure to denounce the group will increase anti-Israel feelings in the United Kingdom, already at an all-time high. In fact, however, the people attacking the EDL are already Israel’s enemies while this group is one of its few friends nowadays. Moreover, the accusations of the EDL being a racist or fascist group are simply not true.

Indeed, the slander against the EDL is another example of how special treatment for Islam and radical Islamists compared to the repression of forces criticizing them so often prevails in Britain today. Here’s a little case study of how things work.

On December 11 the EDL held a demonstration in Peterborough. The EDL proclaims itself as “dedicated to peacefully protesting against radical Islam” and on that December day they largely fulfilled this role. Around 2,000 people marched through the town and listened to speeches. A handful of counter-demonstrators claiming the EDL are “fascists and racists” were kept at bay by the police. The day passed with fewer arrests than a typical Saturday night in any English town.

But not according to the police and the Crown Prosecution Service. Ten days later, an EDL leader was arrested and charged under Section 4b of the Public Order Act with “Racial Aggravation” in relation to a speech he gave in Peterborough. That speech can be viewed on YouTube.

One doesn’t need to condone the speech’s content or agree with it to acknowledge that it is a normal expression of free speech. But there are also additional points of interest to this case.

The man who gave the speech is Guramit Singh, a Sikh whose family comes from India. During his talk he noted that he has been called a “racist” for criticizing Islam, though he is from the same ancestry as Pakistani or Indian Muslims. Indeed, many or most Sikhs are actually the descendants of Muslims.

Singh also explained that he was particularly passionate that day because it was the anniversary of his grandfather being killed fighting in the British army during World War Two. He was angry that some Islamists burned poppies, the symbol of honoring Britain’s war dead on November 11, British Remembrance Day. This is an emotional issue in the UK. I don’t need to point out to readers in Israel how we would feel if the Israeli authorities allowed aggressive Islamic demonstrations outside military cemeteries on Yom Hazikaron.

Singh says nothing trying to inspire violence, whereas it has been shown that some mosque sermons in the UK are directly inflammatory (including derogatory statements about Christianity and Judaism). I wouldn’t be in favor of arresting Muslims who said something I don’t like or agree with either, though I’d be happy to see the statements publicized so more people are aware of the things being said.

But consider the double standards at play. When a television program played examples of mosque sermons demonizing Christians and Jews a few years ago the police filed a complaint with the media watchdog against the program makers, and nothing against the sermon-givers. The program makers eventually sued the police and won considerable damages.

Meanwhile another EDL leader, who goes by the pseudonym of Tommy Robinson, has been arrested on three separate and apparently trumped-up offenses. One of these is related to the Remembrance Day poppy burning incident. The first charge is that when Robinson grabbed a flag from an Islamist protestor during the struggle the pole might have accidentally hit a police officer. At his first appearance in court on November 22, the judge expressed surprise that the police had placed restrictions on his freedom of association and voided them.

In addition, Mr. Robinson has been charged with some vague financial irregularities. The authorities have frozen his bank accounts, virtually shut down his business, and demand that he ask permission before he can spend any money to pay for his living expenses. He and his pregnant fiancée was arrested by heavily armed police. He has made a detailed accusation that the police have been shopping for informants to give false testimony against him.

One tactic being used against the EDL is a court-imposed “Anti-Social Behaviour Order” or ASBO. In one case, two men were ordered not to engage in any EDL-related activity—including even posting anything on the Internet, for ten years. In effect, this is a specially created law used only against the EDL in which the rights to free speech and peaceful protest are simply taken away from them.

Why is there so little protest against this repression? The answer is that once demonized the EDL and its members can simply be deprived of democratic rights. This is bad enough without Israel’s government or Jewish groups adding to the slander and untruth about the most visibly active pro-Israel organization in the United Kingdom today.

What makes all of this even more ironic is that radical Islamist groups, including those engaged in incitement against Jews and Israel, are treated with kid gloves by a police force and court system that is literally too frightened to take them on. Here’s one example: recently, a group of extremists on trial for doing massive damage to a factory making goods for Israel were released after the judge told the jury to find them not guilty since, he said, conditions in the Gaza Strip were so terrible as to justify their vandalism.

The erosion of civil liberties combined with what at times seems like an anti-Israel lynch-mob atmosphere especially in much of the media and on campuses cannot be good for British Jews or for Israel.

Brian of London made aliyah in 2009 after deciding that the anti-Israel lynch-mob atmosphere in London would not be good for his children. By day he runs a business in Tel Aviv in addition to writing and broadcasting on the Internet on sites such as Israellycool and Israpundit.

Another Blood Libel Exposed

No matter how many false accusations have been hurled against Jewish “settlers” or the state of Israel itself, the western media still unquestioningly accepts the next “palestinian” accusation at face value. Of course its not possible that they are stupid enough to be duped over and over again. So its quite obvious that the western media isn't interested in fact-checking when it comes to negative stories about the Jewish state. The media couldn't care less if the stories are real or not and are therefore knowingly and willingly colluding in spreading blood libels against the Jews of Israel.

Leftists Caught Red-Handed: ‘Burning Sheep’ Libel Was Faked

by Tzvi Ben Gedalyahu, INN

( A Jordan Valley Arab farmer has exposed the tactic of leftists accepting Arab claims and falsely accusing Jews of attacking Arabs. He admitted that the “burning sheep” libel against Jews was meant to disguise his own blunder of losing control of a brush fire.

Last week, left-wing groups in Israel and counterparts in the United States spread a story that that an Arab shepherd “saw settlers light a fire in the field where his herd was grazing, burning to death 12 pregnant ewes, and then drive away.”

The story of the sheep burning was so extreme that the police immediately doubted the claim. The supposed burning of the sheep occurred on the Sabbath, when observant Jews, the usual scapegoats, are forbidden to drive.

The Arab farmer, Samir Bani Fadel, claimed that four armed Jews approached him, chased him away, set fire to his field – which also is forbidden on Sabbath – and drove away as the fire spread and burned to death 12 pregnant ewes while injuring others.

Regardless of the doubts, the left-wing B’Tselem and Yesh Din human rights group rushed to allege that the supposed attack was another one of hundreds of supposed acts of vandalism by Jews against Arabs.

New York-based writer Philip Weiss promptly reprinted the libel on his Mondoweiss blog, and the image of sheep being cruelly burned aroused sympathy for Arabs and anger against Jews. “It was an awful sight,” the farmer said. “I’ve lost at least $12,000.”

The Palestinian Authority called on the international community to pressure Israel to stop “settler violence.”

The tale began to unravel when Arabs pointed their fingers at residents of Itamar, an easy target as it is a religious community, but located almost an hour’s drive from the scene of the fire. The story then was changed, with the blame being placed on the closer community of Maaleh Ephraim, most of whose residents are professionals and who almost never have been accused of any activities against Arabs.

Fadel finally admitted to police the whole story was a lie and that he was responsible for the fire, which he set to burn thorns before it spread beyond control. Blaming Jews not only would have saved him from the embarrassment of having burned his own sheep, it also would allow him to claim damages from the government while being hailed as a hero among Palestinian Authority Arabs and left-wing anti-Zionists.

Hundreds of accusations against Jewish residents of Judea and Samaria have been leveled in recent years, usually in claims that Jews attack or destroy olive trees, although evidence has been produced that in most cases the Arabs have simply pruned their trees, counted on lack of agricultural knowledge on the part of the media and leftwing groups, and then accused Jews of damaging them. Olive trees look hacked when they are pruned and months later, the supposedly damaged orchards have been seen to be full of fruit.

Another tactic has been to instigate violence, especially on the Shabbat when Jews are forbidden to take pictures, and then accuse Jews of attacking them.

Yossi Dagan, adviser to the Samaria Regional Council, commented,
“There is a system among left-wing groups who campaign for financial contributions from foreign countries, many of whom are hostile to Israel. They use European Union money, which has reached billions of dollars the past few years. Many of the workers for left-wing groups enjoy high salaries and use reports from so-called human rights organizations and then travel throughout Judea and Samaria and blow up or change facts to spread libel against Jews.”

Dagan explained that Jews are blamed for burning cars in Arab villages when in fact they are damaged as a result of fights among Arabs.

David Ha’Ivri, who heads the Shomron (Samaria) Liaison Office that handles public relations for the Jewish communities in Samaria, said,
“We have a very difficult task up against a bunch of well-funded NGOs like B’Tselem and Rabbis for Human Rights, whose agenda is to hurt the image of the State of Israel and the Jewish residents of Yehuda and Shomron (Judea and Samaria).

“Their slanderous claims are always given the benefit of the doubt by international media agencies who jump at an opportunity to project a Satanic image of the ‘evil Jewish settlers.’ The events reported in this story are a perfect example of blood libel promoted by NGOs who claim to be humanitarian and peace activists.”

NYT Clearly Exposes its Anti-Israel Agenda

An Israeli diplomat was ambushed by the staff of the NYT and was subjected to a barrage of anti-Israel vitriol.

Thomas Friedman is upset that most Americans aren't as morally bankrupt as himself, the NY slimes and the rest of the world in that we aren't on the side of the "palestinians" over Israel.

In the war being waged against the existence of Israel, the NY slimes has essentially taken a stance on the side of the annihilators; hamas, hezbollah, the Iranian regime etc. against the Jewish state and its very survival.

Via Israpundit:
Israeli diplomat ambushed by NY Times staff

The New York Times, flagship of the liberal American media, has never been a friend of the Jewish state. But the newspaper’s aversion to Israel turned to open hostility this month when its top editors ambushed and tore into an unsuspecting senior official from the Israeli Consulate in New York City.

The Israeli official was invited by the Times editors, among them rabid columnist Thomas Friedman, to meet with them at their office. Being a veteran at dealing with the American media, the official assumed the invitation was for a friendly discussion and perhaps an interview regarding the peace process and other matters of importance to Israel.

The Israeli had no idea he was being invited for what he described as a lynch.

As the meeting started, the Times editors – most of them Jews, and one of them a former Israeli – began to attack the Israeli diplomat, and refused to give him even a moment to respond.

They blamed Israel for everything, the diplomat told Israel Today.

The Times editors insisted the breakdown of the peace process was Israel’s fault, that the lack of peace was Israel’s fault, and were adamant that Israel had given nothing to the Palestinians. They accused Israel of being an extremist and racist state, and blasted the diplomat for Israel’s “ill-treatment” of President Barack Obama.

In short, the Times staff informed the Israeli in no uncertain terms that they were sick of his country.

The diplomat told us he was shocked by the attack. He tried to respond, but the Times editors were not interested in hearing his arguments.

“I asked them,” said the diplomat, “We haven’t given the Palestinians anything? How can you say that? Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu broke with his party platform and implemented a 10-month Jewish building freeze, and what did we get in return? More Palestinian refusal to negotiate.”

According to the Israeli, the Times editors responded: “Yes, yes. Of course you are going to start telling us about how Israel’s security needs are not being met. You just don’t get it that we are sick of hearing about that.”

There is little doubt that this ambush was led by Friedman, whose hostility toward Israel in his recent columns has surprised even his liberal friends in the Jewish state.

In recent articles, Friedman has accused Israel of being a spoiled child, crazy and extremist. He insisted that the US stop being Israel’s “enabler,” and pointed out that the rest of the world is fully on the side of the Palestinians, so why not America?

Wrote Friedman in one of his columns: “Israel, when America – which has given you billions over the past 50 years and defended you in the international arena – asks you to stop building settlements for three months in order to jump start peace talks, there is only one correct answer, and that is ‘yes, whatever you say.’”

Internet Freedom Endangered

Not only has the 57 member OIC hijacked the UN and its agenda, they are now set to take control of the internet. We have the Obama administration to thank for this as it is all too willing to surrender America’s sovereignty, freedom and very way of life to the jihadists, terror states and dictatorships around the world. He is obsessed with redistributing our wealth and our power as well. All nations of the world cannot be treated equally and be allowed to have an equal say in international affairs since certain nations are not morally equivalent to America and the west. This is the danger of the liberal mindset.

Atlas Shrugs:
Islamic Supremacists Target a Takeover of the Internet

Back in October 2009, I warned of a seismic transformation in internet regulation and free speech. Under the transnational-happy Obama administration, the US relinquished control of the net. ICANN ended its agreement with the US government. The move gave the Organization of Islamic Conference and other nations a prominent internet role. They couldn’t accomplish this under Bush (see July 2005 Atlas post).

John Bolton said at an appearance at Duke University at the time, “it’s not American strength that’s provocative, it’s American weakness.”

Why should the US relinquish control of its own invention? It was our extraordinary gift to the world …………… and like some depraved drunk, we tossed it away and relinquished control to the vultures and destroyers. We kept it free.

If not America, who? The new agreement gave other countries (dictatorships and rogue nations) and the UN the ability to set internet use policies. At the time, I wrote, “watch for Sharia law to find its way into this.”

Well, that didn’t take long.

Flashback 10/09:

After complaints about American dominance of the internet and growing disquiet in some parts of the world, Washington has said it will relinquish some control over the way the network is run and allow foreign governments more of a say in the future of the system.

Icann – the official body that ultimately controls the development of the internet thanks to its oversight of web addresses such as .com, .net and .org – said today that it was ending its agreement with the US government.

The deal, part of a contract negotiated with the US department of commerce, effectively pushes California-based Icann towards a new status as an international body with greater representation from companies and governments around the globe.

Icann had previously been operating under the auspices of the American government, which had control of the net thanks to its initial role in developing the underlying technologies used for connecting computers together.

Al-Dura Hoax

The “palestinians” could never have gotten away with the Al-Dura hoax without the complicity of the French media along with other western media. That much of the world would astoundingly buy into the notion that this boy had received multiple bullets from Israeli soldiers without lying in a pool of blood and his body still intact, goes to show the level of Jew-hatred around the world. Although Philippe Karsenty has proven beyond a shadow of a doubt that the entire incident was staged, nevertheless Charles Enderlin sticks to his story and has even written a book and of course received an award for promoting this hideous blood libel against the Jews.

Israel Needs to Project Strength

The world respects strength. Obama’s unwillingness to aggressively confront Iran are driving the Arab countries into the arms of Tehran as they see it as the strong horse.

During the same period Israel has been engaged in the “peace” process and has been willing to surrender land, not coincidentally respect for Israel has decreased and the demonization and delegitimization of Israel has increased. The foolish liberals in Kadima, Labor and Meretz beg the world to like Israel and rush to make concessions. This does not strengthen Israel’s position, it weakens it. Israel is looked upon as the weak horse when it begs its enemies to make peace. Israel needs to aggressively assert its rights and to be feared and respected.

Slouching towards Teheran

By Caroline B. Glick, Jewish World Review

Diplomacy? We must concentrate on our strengths and our enemies’ weaknesses. That’s the only proven way to win

The message Jerusalem must send Washington | Two weeks ago, Iran scored a massive victory. Jordan, the West’s most stable and loyal ally in the Arab world began slouching towards the Iranian Gomorrah.

On December 12, Ahmadinejad’s Chief of Staff Esfandiar Rahim-Mashaei met with Jordanian King Abdullah II in Amman and extended a formal invitation from Ahmadinejad for him to pay a state visit to Iran. Abdullah accepted.

According to Iran’s ISNA news agency, Mashei said that Abdullah’s visit will begin a new page in bilateral relations and that, “the two countries hold massive potential to work together.” Mashei added, “If Islamic states stand united, no country will be threatened.” For his part, Abdullah reportedly said that his country recognizes Iran’s nuclear rights and supports its access to peaceful nuclear technology.

Abdullah was one of the first world leaders to sound the alarm o Iran. In 2004 Abdullah warned of a “Shiite crescent” extending from Iran to Iraq, through Syria to Lebanon. His words were well reported at the time. But his warning went unheeded.

In the intervening six years, reality has surpassed Abdullah’s worst fears. Not only Lebanon and Syria have fallen under Iranian control. Iraq, Turkey, Qatar, Gaza and increasingly Oman, Yemen and Afghanistan are also either willing or unwilling members of the axis.

In the face of Iran’s expanding web of influence and the mullahs’ steady progress towards nuclear capability, Washington behaves as though there is no cause for concern. And the likes of Jordan are beside themselves.

In a WikiLeaks leaked cable from April 2009 written by US Ambassador to Jordan R. Stephen Beecroft, Jordan’s frustration and concern over the Obama administration’s incompetence in handling the Iranian threat was clear.

Beecroft wrote, “Jordan’s leaders are careful not to be seen as dictating toward the US, but their comments betray a powerful undercurrent of doubt that the United States knows how to deal effectively with Iran.”

On the one hand, Jordanian Senator Zaid Rifai beseeched US to bomb Iran’s nuclear installations. Rifai said, “Bomb Iran, or live with an Iranian bomb. Sanctions, carrots, incentives won’t matter.”

But on the other hand, the Jordanians recognized that the Obama administration was committed to appeasing Iran and so tried to convince the Americans to ensure that their appeasement drive didn’t come at the Arabs’ expense.

Beecroft reported a clear warning from Abdullah. Abdullah cautioned that if the Arabs believe that the US was appeasing Iran at their expense, “that engagement will set off a stampede of Arab states looking to get ahead of the curve and reach their own separate peace with Teheran.

Will Bibi Apologize to Turkey?

While Bibi has an undeserved reputation as being tough and a hardliner, in reality he is weak and wobbly. That he would even consider apologizing to and giving reparations to turkey, makes me sick. This is a country which essentially committed an act of war against Israel by sending terrorists to attempt to break the blockade of Gaza and instigate a violent confrontation with the IDF. Not suprisingly the White House is on board with this idea. What Israel needs are proud Jewish and Zionist leaders. Instead they have groveling, feckless “leaders”. Is it any wonder that the world consistently condemns every Israeli military action when Israeli leaders apologize and act as though their country has done something wrong? How can the rest of the world believe Israel is in the right if Israel itself is apologetic for self-defense against aggressors?

An Israeli apology may just deepen the rift with Turkey

If Netanyahu insists on going through with this, he should wait until after the June 2011 elections, when the AKP will have little to gain from an apology.

Nearly seven months after the military operation on the high seas to block a Turkish vessel from reaching the Gaza Strip, Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu may now issue an apology. His advisers support him. So does the White House. But if he follows through, Netanyahu will likely exacerbate a deepening diplomatic crisis with Turkey.

When IDF commandos intercepted the Mavi Marmara on May 31, weapons-wielding passengers attacked them as soon as they boarded. The clashes resulted in nine deaths – all Turks. The Turkish government soon demanded an apology. The Israelis insisted that the boat was full of violent Islamists who sought nothing more than an opportunity to do battle. The Israelis, in retrospect, were vindicated. The videos proved their case. Moreover, the flotilla turned out to be sponsored by a group with ties to Hamas and al-Qaida.

Today, however, multiple Middle East media reports indicate that the Israelis could soon apologize to Turkey for the incident. They might even pay reparations to the families of those killed to the tune of $100,000.

Not surprisingly, the move has its critics. Foreign Minister Avigdor Lieberman opposes the deal. Defense Minister Ehud Barak doesn’t like it either. Neither do senior IDF officers.

So, who exactly supports this? According to a senior Israeli diplomat, Netanyahu and his advisers do, despite some well-placed quotes to the contrary. The prime minister has been floating this story in the media as a trial balloon to assess how the Turkish and Israeli people will respond.

After witnessing an outpouring of sympathy from the Turkish people during this month’s Carmel fire (during which, to the surprise of many, Turkey sent two fire-fighting planes), Netanyahu and his inner circle believe that while the Turkish government now champions Hamas, the people of Turkey stand with Israel. He reportedly thinks an apology might win the hearts of Turks and simultaneously get Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan and his Islamist Justice and Development Party (AKP) to somehow ease their anti-Israel rhetoric.

EU Moving Closer to Recognition of “palestine”

With the world lining up against Israel, the nation is in desperate need of strong Zionist leadership to stand against the coming onslaught. Israel is wasting its time and resources in lobbying Europe since the continent is firmly in the clutches of the jihadis and permanently hostile to Israel. Europe is hopelessly lost and should simply be treated as the irrelevancy that it has become. Notice the stories about Israel chosen to be featured to the right of the article.

EU to boost status of Palestinian diplomats

Britain is preparing to confer diplomatic status on the Palestinian delegation in London for the first time, renewing fears in Israel that Europe is moving closer to recognising and independent Palestinian state.

By Adrian Blomfield, Gaza City, The Telegraph

The Foreign Office confirmed it was studying a proposal that would see Palestinian “general delegations” upgraded to “diplomatic missions” in a number of European capitals.

Coming just weeks after the collapse of direct peace negotiations between Israel and the Palestinian leadership, the move was immediately denounced by the Israeli government, which accused Britain and its European allies of undermining the peace process.

“This is really sending the wrong message and I think the Europeans should worry about the consequences of this,” said Yigal Palmor, a spokesman for the Israeli foreign ministry. “This will certainly not encourage the Palestinians to return to direct talks.”

Although the change of status is largely symbolic, and stops short of recognising Palestinian missions as fully fledged embassies, Israel has launched a major lobbying campaign to stop the move out of fear of what it could lead to.

Following the collapse of the peace talks after Israel’s refusal to halt Jewish settlement construction in the West Bank, the Palestinian leadership has stepped up its efforts to win European recognition for a state on land occupied by Israel in 1967.

Hamas Fires Rocket at Kindergarten

The terrorist cowards of hamas shoot rockets at kindergarten children. Meanwhile Israel's political and military leadership has made its soldiers afraid of shooting back at would-be attackers for fear of being accused of "disproportionate force". As for Gilad shalit, special forces ought to be sent in to take him back. I don’t know what has happened to Israel but it used to be a tough-minded and fearless nation which would never let its enemies get the better of it.

Via israpundit:
Hardline Khaled Meshaal’s takeover of Hamas-Gaza meets Israeli kid gloves

The escalating Palestinian violence from the Gaza Strip is the direct result of the Damascus-based Khahled Meshaal’s victory in his power struggle with the Gaza wing’s leadership. Today, this hardliner is in complete control of all wings of the fundamentalist Palestinian movement. Dec. 13, He celebrated the 23rd anniversary of Hamas’s foundation by reiterating the Palestinian goal to seize all the land between the Jordan River and the Mediterranean Sea. His signature is clearly marked in escalating missile, mortar and raiding attacks, murderous kidnapping operations inside Israel and the deadlocked negotiations for liberating the Israeli soldier Gilead Shalit in a prisoner swap.
Under his orders, Hamas-Gaza has itself taken over the missile, mortar and raiding attacks on Israel from the fringe groups like Jihad Islami and Al Qaeda-linked cells heretofore. When they land on empty ground it is deliberate; of late Hamas has taken delivery of guidance instruments to improve their precision. The 10-mortar barrages of Monday, Dec. 20, marked a change in tactics, aiming straight for a military target in the Eshkol district abutting on the Gaza Strip; only by a miracle no one was hurt. Monday night, therefore, the Israeli air force spread out to hit seven sites in the Gaza Strip. Because most were unmanned, only three Hamas operatives were injured, one critically.

Then, early Tuesday, a Qassam missile came dangerously close to a kibbutz nursery school in the Hof Ashkelon area north of Gaza Strip, injuring a small girl and an adult and leaving shock victims.
By then it was obvious that Hamas was gearing up for a showdown. Still, up until Tuesday morning, Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Ehud Barak persisted in holding the IDF back. By refraining from exercising its deterrent strength, Israel handed Hamas the initiative over the pace of the confrontation.
Even when the Palestinian terrorists moved into their next arena over the weekend, they were treated with kid gloves.

The two “Arabs” who murdered the American tourist Christine Luken (correcting the misnomer in the first official announcements) and stabbed her companion, Kaye Wilson, Saturday, Dec. 18 near Mata in the Jerusalem hills, were in fact a Hamas kidnap gang. They planned to abduct the two women, smuggle them to the Gaza Strip possibly through the long Sinai border and hold them hostage. When Wilson managed to get away, they decided to murder their captive and escape the scene ahead of pursuit.

Israeli police commanders, after hearing a full, detailed firsthand report on the incident, refused to call it flat out an act of terrorism, although Wilson had a dozen stab wounds and had reached her rescuers with hands bound behind her back. Instead, police officers spoke vaguely about exploring different paths of inquiry and cast implicit aspersions on her testimony.
Getting away with this crime encouraged Hamas to redouble its efforts, possibly with the same kidnap team already operating in the vicinity of Jerusalem and using the same tactics. Monday, Dec. 20, saw not only a 10-mortar barrage from the Gaza Strip, but three Palestinians armed with long knives trying to assault an Israeli soldier at Givat Zeev. They fled when he cocked his sidearm.

The soldier took care not to shoot and injure any of his assailants – and so bring Israeli anti-terrorist authorities a valuable asset for interrogation – because he was afraid of sharing the fate faced by some of his comrades – trial by the military prosecutor and the media for responding with “disproportionate force.”
He knew what he was doing: The police spent more time casting doubt on his account – “it is being checked” – than catching the would-be kidnappers. They remain at large for more murderous abductions of Israelis. Their handlers will have understood that they can safely press ahead with their efforts to snatch Israeli soldiers who are afraid to shoot – especially after Deputy Defense Minister Matan Vilnai told a radio interviewer Tuesday morning that he saw no sign of a Hamas “war of attrition” developing against Israel.

Khaled Meshaal’s takeover of Hamas Gaza gravely prejudices Gilead Shalit’s hopes of deliverance more than four years after he was kidnapped in a cross-border raid outside the Gaza Strip.
Hamas Prime Minister Ismail Haniyeh and Gaza’s ideologue and virtual foreign minister Mahmoud A-zahar have been elbowed aside by Meshaal’s cronies, interior minister Fathi Hamad and Ezz e-din al-Qassam commander Ahmed al-Jabary. That act abruptly ended the controversy within the Hamas leadership over whether to accept a prisoner swap deal with Israel for Gilead Shalit’s freedom. From the first, Meshaal fought against letting the Israeli soldier go – even for all the 10,000 Palestinians in Israeli jails. For him, Shalit is an irreplaceable asset for enhancing his international prestige by bringing world leaders to his door to plead for the Israeli soldier’s release. By this means, Hamas gains international legitimacy and recognition as a force to be reckoned with in the region rather than a bunch of rabid terrorists.
Hamas’ military commander, Jabari, holds the Israeli soldier locked away from all contact with the outside world in an underground cell as an insurance policy against any Israeli attempts to liquidate him. He has sent backdoor message to Israel that Shalit’s jailors are under orders to respond to his untimely death by killing their Israeli captive.
These brutal facts have clearly not been brought home to Gilead’s desperate parents who have vowed to remain in a tent opposite Prime Minister Netanyahu’s residence and not go home until they can take their son with them. They are protesting what they call the government’s lack of courage and determination to obtain his release, when in fact they are dealing with a government which is in paralyzing denial over the escalating threats posed by Hamas.

Hillary’s Malice Toward Israel

Mrs. Clinton needs to be informed that the religious interests of people of all faiths around the world already ARE respected in a united Jerusalem under full Israeli sovereignty. However under a muslim “palestinian” state, Jewish and Christian people’s faith will NOT be respected just as they weren’t respected under Jordanian occupation. Hillary is neither ignorant or naive. Certainly she is aware that this is not a dispute over territory, but rather a religious imperative on the part of muslims to obliterate the Jewish state. She surely knows that Israeli land concessions and the creation of a “palestinian” islamic terror state will not bring about peace. So what else can we conclude from her and her boss’ continued insistence on Israel surrendering land be about except malice towards Israel?

Clinton a danger to Israel

Op-ed: Hillary Clinton’s disregard for Arab desire to eliminate Israel delusional, evil

Moshe Dann, YNet News

Secretary of State Hillary Clinton’s address to the Saban Forum should leave little doubt that she is a danger to the State of Israel and, thereby, to the Jewish people. For those who care about Israel, her words, because she expresses the position of President Obama’s administration, are alarming.

Clinton’s speech was praised for not demanding a further settlement freeze; this was because US policy makers realized it would accomplish nothing, and PM Netanyahu had already agreed to stop, or severely limit building de facto. Instead, she emphasized state-building, “ending the occupation,” and borders. Coupled with international recognition of Palestinian statehood, this side-steps Israeli resistance to a freeze and insistence on Palestinian acceptance of Israel, further isolating Israel. What she did not say is worse.

Not once did she mention official PA support, directly and indirectly, for incitement and terrorism. While passing on the usual gesture to America’s “commitment to Israel’s security,” her focus was elsewhere.

Blindly obedient to the notion of building a Palestinian state, she ignored the recent statement of Fatah, the PA’s ruling party in the West Bank: “No to Israel as a Jewish state, no to interim borders, no to land swaps.” And that’s only for openers.

This Week's Haveil Havalim

Edition #296 of the Jewish blog carnival Haveil Havalim is up at Letters of Thought.

Israel-Bashing Bus Ads in Seattle

A counter ad needs to be launched in Seattle focusing on American taxpayer money given to the PA and hamas which goes toward perpetrating terrorism against Israelis and persecuting Christians in hamas run Gaza and the PA run territories. I’m so tired of the incessant scurrilous attacks against Israel being unanswered. The enemies of Israel are so far ahead of us in the information war. We are confronted by an avalanche. The Jew-haters are far more numerous and have unlimited resources. We face a constant uphill battle. How ironic that while we are bombarded with anti-Israel messages on a regular basis, it is said that the Zionists are in control of the western media.

Jew-Hatred Bus Ads Run in Seattle

UPDATE: Finally, A Hamas Leader Admits That Israel Killed Mostly Combatants In Gaza

My life-saving bus ads for Muslim apostates were banned in Detroit. We had to sue to get them up in Miami. We had to sue New York transit to get Ground Zero bus ads up, but Jews defending themselves are advertised as a war crime without hesitation. Over ten thousand rockets into southern Israel by “Palestinian” Muslims, but no ads condemning the actual war crimes.

Speech is free as long as you demonize Jews or Christians.

I imagine that the spokesman for this group, SS sympathizer Ed Mast, would shoot a Jew running away from a gas chamber in Poland for “war crimes.”

Time to run some SIOA bus ads in Seattle to educate these neanderthals.

European Hatred of Israel

What the anti-Israel ideology truly represents is extreme cowardice and depravity. Whenever I read articles such as this it makes me all the more grateful my ancestors fled europe and came to America.

Outside of a handful of decent people in europe such as the subject of this interview Giulio Meotti, Geert Wilders and a few others, the continent deserves everything being inflicted upon it from the invading jihadists. Europe has made its bed, now it has to sleep in it. They chose an alliance with evil over good, with bloodthirsty mass murderers over a free, civilized, democratic and humane nation. Now Europe is suffering the consequences of that choice. Strangely rather than identifying more with Israel's struggle, European hostility towards the Jewish state has only increased as the jihad threat to Europe itself becomes more acute.

Via Israpundit:
The Oral Historian of Israel’s Terror War

by Michael J. Totten

Encounter Books recently published Italian journalist Giulio Meotti’s gut wrenching book A New Shoah: The Untold Story of Israel’s Victims of Terrorism. At first glance I thought his title might be over-the-top. Orders of magnitude more people were murdered in the Shoah—the Nazi Holocaust—than by terrorists in Israel, but that isn’t the point. What Israel’s victims of terrorism have in common with the victims of the Nazi genocide is that they were Jews who were murdered for being Jews.

Why else, after all, would a suicide bomber explode himself at Café Hillel in Jerusalem rather than at a military checkpoint in the West Bank or Gaza? Why else would Hamas fire rockets at kindergartens in Sderot instead of at army bases? And why else would Hezbollah lionize Samir Kuntar, a man who murdered a four year old girl by placing her head on a rock and smashing her skull with the butt of his rifle? And why would Hezbollah go all the way to Buenos Aires, Argentina, to blow up a Jewish community center with a truck bomb?

Meotti’s book is grim, but somebody needed to write it, and he’s the person who did. He and I spoke a few days ago.

MJT: So tell us why you wrote this book.

Giulio Meotti: What’s the difference between a Western democracy, such as France or the United States, and Israel’s democracy? It’s not the start-up nation, the job opportunities, the scientific progress, or the number of Nobel laureates. The most important difference between Israel and the other Western countries lies in the young men and women killed for what they are: Israelis living as free human beings in their historical homeland.

The Jewish state is the only member of the United Nations condemned to death. Its existence is the only one widely considered temporary by a large number of countries in the world. In 2003 I decided to investigate the great black hole that in the last fifteen years has snuffed out thousands of lives, Jews killed because they are Jews.

The book is the result of many years of research inside the painful heart and soul of Israel. There were no books devoted to this single dramatic question. I give a voice to dozens of families and survivors of terrorism who have been neglected by an arrogant media industry. I think the blood spilled by terrorism is the most precious and fragile story that Israel has today, a story that even Israeli writers have neglected.

MJT: Let’s talk about your title. Some potential readers might think comparing Israel’s victims of terrorism to the Jewish victims of the Holocaust is a bit much, not least because the scale is so different in size. I thought so myself at first, though that feeling went away by about page 8 or 9. Perhaps you could say something about it for those who haven’t read to page 8 or 9.

Giulio Meotti: First of all let me say that I will never accept lessons about the use of the word Shoah by those who are undermining the Jewish state every day with their rhetoric. In Europe the memory of the Holocaust has become a perfect stage for the bashers of Israel. There is a direct connection between the Nazi ideology and the Islamist agenda–I am thinking of the mufti of Jerusalem, Mohammad Amin al-Husseini, who fought with Hitler against the Jews, and also the genocidal Hamas charter. The Holocaust survivors killed in Israel by suicide bombings, rockets, and terror shootings are the living proof of this terrible link.

With this title I wanted to address something the chattering classes refuse to recognize: that the monstrous morality of anti-Semitism continues as an immortal beast behind the politically correct mask of anti-Zionism. A distorted notion of remembering and history separates the Holocaust–a pure symbol of evil–from Israel’s sixty year struggle for survival under war and terrorism. There is also the question of living under the pre-nuclear threat from Iran. Mahmoud Ahmadinejad denies the truth of the Shoah in order to weaken Israel’s existence and to prepare the world for a new massacre by Hezbollah, Hamas, and possibly even a nuclear attack. The question of the Shoah, and that Jewish identity is again under massive attack, defines the world after the 9/11 attacks.

Leftist Israeli Politicians Collude With Obama Against Bibi

Like our own liberal democrats, the Israeli leftist politicians are detached from reality as well as unmoved by the wishes of the majority of their countrymen. It’s bad enough that clueless leftist elites here fail to grasp that no matter what land concessions Israel makes, it will never lead to peace because the goal of the “palestinians” is the obliteration of the Jewish state. However Israeli leaders wherever they are on the political spectrum ought to know better. Yet leftists like Livni and Barak continue to emphasize the importance of the “peace” process charade and falsely and maliciously blame the right wing in Israel for the lack of peace, in order to obtain power for themselves. What they are doing is treacherous.

Bringing Bibi down

By Caroline B. Glick, JWR

The media and the Obama administration are again colluding with the Israeli Left’s political leadership to overthrow the Netanyahu government. How they intend to succeed at their goal

Over the past week, two writers published columns in foreign newspapers. One received wall to wall coverage in Israel. The other was completely ignored. The contrasting fortunes of the articles are a key to understanding the central challenges to Israel’s democratic order.

Last Friday, Saeb Erekat, the Palestinian Authority’s chief peace negotiator with Israel published an op-ed in Britain’s Guardian newspaper in which he declared eternal war on the Jewish state. This he did by asserting that any peace agreement between Israel and the Palestinians that does not permit the immigration of some 7 million foreign Arabs to Israel will be “completely untenable.”

So as far as the supposedly moderate chief Palestinian negotiator is concerned, a peace deal in which Israel cedes Judea and Samaria and Jerusalem to the Palestinians as the Israeli Left desires will not be sufficient for the Palestinians. Unless Israel also agrees to commit national suicide by accepting 7 million foreign Arabs as citizens, the Palestinians will continue to wage their war. So with or without a Palestinian state, as long as Israel exists, the Palestinians will continue to seek its destruction.

The second article was Tom Friedman’s latest column in the New York Times.

Throughout his interminable career, Friedman has identified with Israel’s radical Left and so been the bane of all non-leftist governments. In his latest screed, he compared Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu to someone in the throes of an LSD trip. Friedman harangued Netanyahu for failing to convince his cabinet to agree to the Obama administration’s demand to abrogate Jewish property rights in Judea, Samaria and Jerusalem for another 90 days. He argued that by doing so, Israel — with some help from the Palestinians — is destroying all chance of peace.

So on the one hand, the chief Palestinian negotiator declared eternal war. And on the other hand, Friedman condemned Netanyahu — for the gazillionth time.

And characteristically, the Israeli media ignored Erekat’s article and gave Friedman’s screed around-the-clock coverage.

Despite its hysteria, the media has not fooled the public. The Israeli people don’t need to hear about Erekat’s declaration of war to know that the supposedly moderate Fatah party is just as committed to Israel’s destruction as Hamas. Israelis know that the majority of terrorist attacks carried out by the Palestinians since 2000 have been conducted by Fatah. They know that the US- and EU-financed and trained Palestinian security services commanded the Palestinian jihad that began in 2000. They know that Fatah is behind much of the political warfare being carried out today against Israel throughout the world. The disparity between the pubic and the media comes across very clearly in a poll released last week by the Brookings Institute. A mere eight percent of Israelis believe that Israel and the Palestinians will achieve a lasting peace in the next five years. 91percent of Israeli Jews and 88 percent of Israeli Arabs think either that more time is needed or that there will never be peace.

Despite the sentiments of the public, there is a class of Israeli leaders that acts as though peace is just around the corner and that the public expects them to deliver it. Not unlike Friedman, for the most part these politicians argue that the Israeli government bears either sole responsibility or the lion’s share of responsibility for the absence of peace. Consequently, they argue that all that is required to achieve peace is an Israeli leader willing to do what it takes to make it happen.

London is a Center of Jihad Activity

The British establishment’s continual failure to seriously confront the islamic jihad threat within its midst is not only a danger to their own country but is becoming an increasing danger to the entire free world. Pretty soon Britain will be able to join the Organization of the islamic Conference. That’s how far and fast the islamization of the country is going. As for those who falsely claim that our alliance with Israel is a danger to this country, what should be said about our friendship with England.

How I was reviled for warning that Britain is a hotbed of Islamic terrorism

By Melanie Phillips, Mail Online

Some four-and-a-half years ago, a book of mine was published that caused something of a sensation.
It was called Londonistan, and it was about the way in which – astoundingly – Britain had become the most important centre, outside the Islamic world itself, for the production and export of Islamic terrorism.
Worse yet, I wrote, even after the 9/11 attacks and the 7/7 London Tube and bus bombings, the British political, legal and security establishments were still refusing to get to grips with the threat posed to Britain by militant Muslims who wanted to conquer it for Islam.
For my pains, I was called ‘mad’ by the Guardian, ‘bonkers’, ‘alarmist’, ‘hysterical’ and, of course, ‘Islamophobic’.
Indeed, I had a hard time getting the book published at all. It was turned down by every mainstream London publisher because they regarded my views as dangerous extremism. One even remarked: ‘I’d rather take the poison ricin than publish this.’ Nice!
For a while it looked as if it would be published only in the U.S. – but a few weeks before publication in America, a tiny British publishing house bravely volunteered to publish it here.
Given the terrifying nature of what I wrote in that book, it really does give me no comfort to say this – but the fact is that, ever since it was published, a steady stream of revelations has proved that I was absolutely right.
This week, we learned that Taimour Abdulwahab Al-Abdaly, who blew himself up in a terrorist attack in Stockholm, was yet another radicalised British Muslim university graduate. He was but the latest in an unremitting procession of British Muslims who have committed terrorist attacks in other countries. And many have been educated to a high level in Britain.

Red Cross Surrenders to Sharia

The Red Cross shamefully refuses to intervene on behalf of one of its employees in Afghanistan who was arrested for converting to Christianity. The organization has betrayed its own stated purpose. This is the same ICRC that long refused to allow Israel to be a member. And when it finally did, only did so under the stipulation that Israel not feature the Star of David emblem.

Red Cross Neglects Arrested Afghan Employee for Converting to Christianity

Refuses to Deliver Prisoner’s Mail

Washington, D.C. (December 14, 2010) – International Christian Concern (ICC) has learned that the Red Cross in Afghanistan (ICRC) has not intervened on behalf of a long-term employee who was arrested and imprisoned because he is Christian. This, despite that the Red Cross mandate includes “visiting prisoners” and “helping victims of conflict and internal violence, whoever they are.”

Sayed Mossa worked 15 years in ICRC’s orthopedic department in Kabul assisting amputees. In late May, footage of Muslim converts to Christianity being baptized was aired in Afghanistan. The broadcast triggered nationwide protests and a government-led crackdown against Christians. On May 31, being a Muslim convert to Christianity, Mossa was arrested by security officers working with the Ministry of Interior.

Aid workers in Kabul immediately contacted the Red Cross after hearing of the arrest. “The Protection office told us that Mossa will be visited like the others and that we must not interfere with their job. We are not his family and they will not tell us anything. We told them that he has been sexually abused and his condition has deteriorated badly, but nothing could move them,” said a friend of Mossa’s who inquired about his safety. When Mossa’s wife asked for help, the Red Cross paid her Mossa’s salary, but reportedly said they would not intervene to liberate her husband. It was two months before Mossa’s wife had heard where he was being held. She was not notified by the Red Cross, but by a released prisoner who had served time with Mossa.

In a final meeting with Reto Stocker, head of the Red Cross in Kabul, Mossa’s friends were again told that ICRC is neutral and would not intervene. They were also asked to not make the case public.

In another breach of the Red Cross’ mission, they refused to deliver hundreds of letters addressed to Mossa. Westerners organized the letter-writing campaign to both encourage the Christian and to publicly display the international community’s concern over his plight. “They won’t deliver the letters to Sayed. The Red Cross does not have the right to keep the letters from him. It’s their responsibility to ensure he receives letters written to him via the Red Cross address,” said an aid worker in Kabul who helped organize the campaign.

“If the Red Cross refuses to do something they stand for, shouldn’t the world know about such a gross violation of their stated practices?” said another aid worker. “I mean, if donors support the Red Cross’ work because of what they declare they do, shouldn’t the Red Cross be reproved for their refusal to do (the work they are supposed to do)?”

Aidan Clay, ICC Regional Manager for the Middle East, said, “Sayed Mossa has now been in prison for nearly six months without legal representation or equal protection. The Red Cross, his employer, did not visit Mossa in prison until two months after his arrest, and would not intervene because he was arrested on religious grounds. Moreover, they have blatantly refused to deliver letters to Sayed which are rightfully his. We urge those concerned about the Red Cross’ behavior to call the Red Cross in their country and politely express their views.”

Thomas Friedman Needs a Reality Check

Why don’t Friedman and other like-minded people ever mention aid to Egypt or Pakistan, the latter of which then turns around and aids the taliban and al qaeda. That is truly throwing our money away as well as endangering America and our soldiers in Afghanistan. The former persecutes the Coptic Christians. The “aid” provided to Israel at least comes back to America since it is used to buy American military goods. So those who speak of the burden of foreign aid and only mention Israel, are exposed as complete frauds. Their concern is not about the strain on the American economy which is scant, but rather their real agenda is to agitate against Israel. These people are so easy to see right through.

Doubting Thomas

Marc Prowiser comments on Thomas Friedman’s article in the NY Times

Yesha Views

Oh Thomas, Thomas, Thomas, I am warmed by your strong patriotic feelings towards the economic troubles in the US. Even more so how you are sure that once the US stops it $3 billion dollar aid package to Israel, US towns will be a boomin’ all over the US of A. If only Prime Minister Netanyahu would have agreed to another three-month building moratorium, everything would have been all right.

I also appreciate your care and concern regarding Israel’s substance abuse problem, and I agree with you. We are also grateful for you in pointing out that Israel is the reason so many US cities are having budget problems. Yes the 3 billion Israel receives and spends in the US is the core of the problem. I was wondering if you might apply your patriotic feelings to other countries around the world, maybe to the UN also…but I digress.

Do you remember the Yom Kippur war of 1973? You know when Israel came close to being wiped out? Israel’s friend and ally, the US came to it’s aid and sent sorely needed ammo and equipment over and Thank Gd, this joint venture and friendship enabled a different outcome than that which the Arab and Soviet world had hoped for. Did I say Soviet? Maybe you forget, that it was in US interest that Israel existed as a US ally in the region, might I add the only true and stable US ally and friend in the region, something that was paid for in blood, lots of blood.

So when the Soviet Union started powering down in the Mid East, Uncle Sam came in and said to Israel, give ‘em the Sinai, come on we’re friends, don’t worry, I’ll watch your back, I promise. Israel said, but the lives lost defending our country, the oil, the natural resources, the military buffer zone, how could we, they have been attacking us since we declared ourselves a state? Uncle Sam said, tell ya what, I’m gonna compensate you all, it’s on me, you compromise on your defense and resources, pull your people out and we’ll back you up with Military aid and our support, don’t worry, Trust us…and that is just part of the picture.

Never mind the technology that Israel and the US share, the numerous business ventures that benefit both countries and numerous towns and cities in the US, and so much more.

Never mind that Israel is the only true friend and ally the US has in the Middle East, and the only country around there that shares its value and rights systems, and so much more.

Church Rents Out Space to muslims

What do the congregants have to say about their church allowing muslims to set up a mosque in the basement? Outreach is ALWAYS a one-way street with infidels giving and muslims taking without any reciprocity on the part of muslims whatsoever. When will we ever learn? There are those who say that being tolerant to all religions is an American value. However if we continue to be open to an ideology, "religion" and culture which does not share our values of tolerance and openness then those very values that we hold dear in America will be endangered. Now when will mosques allow Christians or Jews to set up churches or synagogues in their basements?

Did the muslim guests who spoke to the congregation to talk about islam bother to mention any of the following:

The persecution of Coptic Christians in Egypt, the massacre of Christians in Nigeria, the genocide of Christians in the Sudan and the kidnapping of Christian children to be indoctrinated into islam? Did they mention the burning of churches in Malaysia and Indonesia and Kosovo? Or how about Christians being driven out of Lebanon, Iraq and the PA and hamas controlled territories? Or did they bother to mention muslim converts to Christianity being sentenced to death in Pakistan, Afghanistan and other muslim countries? Or how about the female genital mutilation, the stonings and floggings, forced shrounding and "honor" murders of women and girls throughout the muslim world.

Logan's Warning:
Connecticut: Church Allows Muslims to Set up Mosque in Basement
December 13, 2010
By admin

Unfortunately today we see another example of Western Civilization committing its slow suicide. St. Mary’s Episcopal Church which is led by Rev. Paul Briggs has opened his Church to a religion that is out to destroy all other religions. He has temporarily rented out the Church basement, and allowed it to be turned into a makeshift Mosque which is being used by dozens of Muslims. Judging by his comments we can see that he is uniformed on Islam.
“I inquired of the leadership to see if there were any objections, and no one had any objections,” Briggs said. “We were glad to welcome them.”

Christians and Muslims have mixed a bit at the church.

“We invited leadership from the mosque to address a public gathering of our congregation during Lent to tell us a little bit about Islam,” Briggs said. “I think our people enjoy understanding another religion. It helps us to understand our own faith.”

“I think it’s a crucial period in our history in the U.S. for us to be able to understand Islam and build friendships for a peaceful future,” he said.

With all the news reports on Muslims, I would think that all Church leaders would have taken the time to educate themselves on Islam. Apparently that is not the case. Reverend, did the Muslims who spoke at your Church tell you that Islam calls for your dominance or death?

Evil Zionist Doctors in the Maldives

There goes that evil country again sending a medical team to help needy people in the Maldives this time. Some have expressed their gratitude by burning Israeli flags and spreading rumors about the Israeli doctors. So Jews help muslims while muslims wish to wipe the Jewish state off the map. And many deranged leftists in the west share that goal. Much of the world is so morally depraved as to stand in solidarity with the barbarians and work feverishly for the destruction of a humanitarian nation which contributes to the betterment of mankind.

Maldivians burn Israeli flags in protest against medics

The Asian Age

Protesters in the Maldives burned Israeli flags over the weekend during protests against a visiting medical team from the Jewish state, police said on Tuesday.

Dozens of people gathered in the capital island male urging President Mohamed Nasheed’s government to deport the Israeli team, who are offering free eye clinics to locals.

“The demonstrations were fairly peaceful. The medical team will leave on December 15th as planned,” the police spokesman Ahmed Shiyam told AFP by telephone from male.

Religious group the Islamic Foundation of the Maldives has spearheaded the protests and spread false rumours about the Israeli doctors on its website.

There was no immediate comment from Nasheed’s office, but his website on Monday carried a report showing him meeting the surgeons from the Israeli humanitarian organisation Eye from Zion.

“The President said a vast majority of Maldivians appreciated the humanitarian work of the doctors,” the report said, adding that eye from zion could collaborate with local medical NGO’s in the Maldives.

Maldivians by law are Sunni Muslims and other religions are not allowed to have places of worship. In July, a Maldivian atheist committed suicide after complaining of being persecuted for not being a Muslim.

The Israeli team has conducted eye camps in male and some hospitals around the nation of more than 1,000 tiny coral islands, which is famous as a honeymoon destination.

Maldivian foreign minister Ahmed Shaheed told AFP that the eye camps were a success with many people making use of the Israelis’ expertise.

The Maldives resumed ties with Israel in the early 1990s after previously banning its citizens from entering the country.

Children Forced Into islam

This is absolutely horrid. Christian boys in Africa kidnapped, whipped, chained at the ankles, made to drink filthy water and forcibly indoctrinated into islam. Girls are kidnapped, raped and forced to be sex slaves for muslim soldiers. Why doesn’t this outrage liberals and the Obama administration? They have higher priorities such as Jews adding extra bedrooms to their homes in Jerusalem.

Suicide Bombing in Sweden

For years Europe has made excuses for terrorism against Israel. Now suicide bombings have come to them. Yet Europe still doesn’t get it and is more forcefully pressuring Israel to relinquish territory and more frantically pushing to create what would be a “palestinian” islamic terror state. They still don’t get that it is islamic doctrine which motivates the terrorists and not anything Israel or America or the west does.

Atlas Shrugs:
Jihad in Sweden: Homicide Bomber, Screaming Allahu Akbar, Targets Christmas Shoppers

The jihad has come to Sweden. When I was checking on this story, the enemy media made no mention of the Islamic motivation or any connection to Islam.

Fröken Sverige writes me :

Suicidebomber in Stockholm, Sweden, blow him self up while screaming Allahu Akbar!

But first he sent a warning to the secret police and to other islamists: Kill swedish people like Lars Vilks, kill the swedish people and their mothers and kids….

Look at how yahoo reported this act of Islamic jihad on the West here:

STOCKHOLM – Two explosions in central Stockholm killed one person and injured two on Saturday, causing panic among Christmas shoppers.

Police spokeswoman Petra Sjolander said a car exploded near Drottninggatan, a busy shopping street in the center of the city. Shortly afterward, a second explosion was heard higher up on the same street, and a man was found injured on the ground.

He was later pronounced dead.

Two other people were taken to the hospital with lighter injuries, but it was not immediately clear in which explosion they were hurt.

Rescue services spokesman Roger Sverndal said the car that exploded contained gas canisters.

Sjolander said it was unclear what caused the second explosion and if the two blasts were linked, but said a police bomb squad has been sent to the site

“There was a man lying on the ground with blood coming out in the area of his belly, and with his personal belongings scattered around him,” he said.

“It shook the store that I was in,” he said of the blast. “Then there was smoke and gun powder coming into the store.”

“I saw some people crying, perhaps from the chock,” he added.

Kissinger Wasn't Concerned About Potential Genocide of Soviet Jews

These tapes reveal the true evil nature of henry kissinger. We already knew of his intention to “shrink Israel down to size”, but this reveals his overall callousness to the lives of Jews anywhere. I’m so sick of him being regarded as this great statesman when in fact his conduct as Secretary of State was repugnant and malicious. Throughout history some of the biggest enemies of the Jewish people were fellow "Jews".

Kissinger: Gassing Jews would not be a US problem
12/11/2010 23:58

"If they put Jews into gas chambers in the Soviet Union, it is not an American concern," then-US sec. of state tells Nixon on 1973 tape.

WASHINGTON – Henry Kissinger is heard saying the genocide of Soviet Jews would not be an American problem on newly released tapes chronicling President Nixon’s obsession with disparaging Jews and other minorities.

Kissinger’s remarks come after a meeting between the two men and former prime minister Golda Meir on March 1, 1973, in which Meir pleads for US pressure on the Soviet Union to release its Jews.

The men dismiss her plea after Meir leaves.

“The emigration of Jews from the Soviet Union is not an objective of American foreign policy,” The New York Times on Saturday quoted Kissinger, then secretary of state, as saying on the tapes. “And if they put Jews into gas chambers in the Soviet Union, it is not an American concern. Maybe a humanitarian concern.”

Nixon replies: “I know. We can’t blow up the world because of it.”

Six months later, during the Yom Kippur War, Nixon rejected Kissinger’s advice to delay an arms airlift to Israel as a means of setting the stage for an Egypt confident enough to pursue peace; Nixon, among other reasons, cited Israel’s urgent need.

Nixon secretly recorded his White House conversations.

Edition #295 of the Jewish blog carnival Haveil havalim is up at Frume Sarah's World.

Injustice to DePaul Professor Who Defended Israel

Those who allowed professor Klocek to twist in the wind committed an even greater offense. There are too few who are willing to stand up to the barbarians. Even so-called conservatives cower in fear of islamic supremacists. The entire university, students and faculty alike are a disgrace.

Atlas Shrugs:
Justice Denied for Professor Fired for Defending Israel

After years of fighting for justice, the righteous university professor victimized by academic appeasers of Islamic supremacist anti-semitic brutes lost his battle in the fight for free speech. Chalk this up to another blow to Western civilization and yet another victory for the sharia (Islamic law).

The Muslim Brotherhood and their nazi proxies prevailed.

Back in late 2004 I posted on the egregious abuse suffered by De Paul university professor Thomas Klocek, a 15-year De Paul university professor, who had engaged in "dialogue' with some Muslim student supporters of Hamas and Islamic Jihad at a student fair on campus.

He defended Israel. He questioned whether Rachel Corrie had indeed been murdered in cold blood and whether Israelis were really treating Palestinians in the same way that Hitler treated the Jews -- as the Muslim students’ literature and posters claimed. He insisted that “the Israeli Armed Forces have exercised very careful restraint in their responses to what has been almost daily suicide bombings.” Whereupon eight students descended on the single professor. A verbal melee ensued. Despite their clear superiority in numbers, the students donned the garb of victims, complaining that they were “harassed” and "threatened.” They further alleged that Klocek had made “racist remarks.” The students met with their advisors who alerted various administrative deans. The deans wasted no time capitulating to the student agitators. They apologized to the offended students and suspended Professor Klocek.

"The 'Real Jew' Debate" by Roger Cohen:

Ira Stup was raised in Philadelphia attending Jewish day school and camps. He found his home in the Jewish community and was “intoxicated with Jewish democracy” as framed in the ideals of Israel’s foundation. Now he has returned deeply troubled from a one-year fellowship based in Tel Aviv.

The worst single incident occurred on Ben Yehuda Street in central Jerusalem. Stup, 24, a Columbia graduate, was returning from a rally with a couple of friends carrying a banner that said, “Zionists are not settlers.” A group of religious Jews wearing yarmulkes approached, spat on them and started punching.

“About 20 people saw the whole thing and just watched. They were screaming, ‘You are not real Jews.’ Most of them were American. It was one of the most disappointing moments of my life — you can disagree as much as you want with a banner but to allow violence and not react is outrageous. For me it was a turning point. Nobody previously had said I was not a real Jew.”

To oppose the continued expansion of settlements in the West Bank (“Zionists are not settlers”), or question growing anti-Arab bigotry as personified by Israel’s rightist foreign minister and illustrated by the “loyalty oath” debate, or ask whether the “de-legitimization” of Israel might not have something to do with its own actions is to incur these organizations’ steady ire.

I don’t buy into the notion that Israel’s own actions lead to deligitimization in view of the fact that the world’s worst violators of human rights, the world’s worst tyrannical regimes are not being delegitimized.

Debate remains stifled, despite Peter Beinart’s important piece this year in the New York Review of Books describing growing alienation among young American Jews asked to “check their liberalism at Zionism’s door.” Oh, sure, you can find all sorts of opinions about Israel all over the place; America remains an open society. But Aipac has systematically shunned a debate with J Street, the upstart Jewish organization that supports Israel, opposes the settlements and attempts to reclaim the progressive ideals of Zionism by saying that the systematic oppression of the Palestinians undermines Israel.

In what way has Israel been oppressing the “palestinians”? I do know however that the PA and hamas deny basic freedoms and human rights to their own people. There is no free speech, free press, the PA and hamas imprison and torture dissidents, persecution of Christians, execution of those who sell land to Jews. Increasingly sharia law is being implemented in Gaza under hamas.

“These organizations’ view remains essentially that any time you engage in an activity critical of Israel you are trying to destroy the state of Israel,” Jeremy Ben-Ami, the president of J Street, told me. “Here are all these Jewish kids being raised on great liberal values at Hebrew schools — walks for the homeless, Darfur, AIDS —

Why are Hebrew schools promoting liberal values and causes other than Judaism?

The view that American Jews supportive of Israel but critical of its policies are not “real Jews” is, however, widespread. Israel-right-or-wrong continues to be the core approach of major U.S. Jewish organizations, from the American Israel Public Affairs Committee (Aipac) to the Conference of Presidents of Major American Jewish Organizations

Please, AIPAC is hardly right wing as it supports the creation of a “palestinian” islamic terror state and lobbied for American aid to the PA.

Iranian Missiles to be Placed in Venezuela

Iran will be placing ballistic missiles in Venezuela which can reach the United States. This makes Iran a direct threat to us. Point this out to the liberals and even conservative isolationists like Ron Paul who believe that if we would only mind our own business and stay out of the Middle East, we will be safe from jihadic threats. They need to be made to understand that in the modern world of ballistic missiles that can travel thousands of miles and where rogue, terrorist regimes have nuclear weapons capability, we don’t have the luxury of being able to become isolationist and retreat from the world stage. We are at war whether we choose to fight back or not.

Iran Placing Medium-Range Missiles in Venezuela; Can Reach the U.S.

by Anna Mahjar-Barducci

Iran is planning to place medium-range missiles on Venezuelan soil, based on western information sources[1], according to an article in the German daily, Die Welt, of November 25, 2010. According to the article, an agreement between the two countries was signed during the last visit o Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez to Tehran on October19, 2010. The previously undisclosed contract provides for the establishment of a jointly operated military base in Venezuela, and the joint development of ground-to-ground missiles.

At a moment when NATO members found an agreement, in the recent Lisbon summit (19-20 November 2010), to develop a Missile Defence capability to protect NATO's populations and territories in Europe against ballistic missile attacks from the East (namely, Iran), Iran's counter-move consists in establishing a strategic base in the South American continent - in the United States's soft underbelly.

According to Die Welt, Venezuela has agreed to allow Iran to establish a military base manned by Iranian missile officers, soldiers of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard and Venezuelan missile officers. In addition, Iran has given permission for the missiles to be used in case of an "emergency". In return, the agreement states that Venezuela can use these facilities for "national needs" – radically increasing the threat to neighbors like Colombia. The German daily claims that according to the agreement, Iranian Shahab 3 (range 1300-1500 km), Scud-B (285-330 km) and Scud-C (300, 500 and 700 km) will be deployed in the proposed base. It says that Iran also pledged to help Venezuela in rocket technology expertise, including intensive training of officers

Venezuela has also become the country through which Iran intends to bypass UN sanctions. Following a new round of UN sanctions against the Islamic Republic, for example, Russia decided not to sell five battalions of S-300PMU-1 air defence systems to Iran. These weapons, along with a number of other weapons, were part of a deal, signed in 2007, worth $800 million. Now that these weapons cannot be delivered to Iran, Russia is looking for new customers; according to the Russian press agency Novosti[2], it found one: Venezuela.

Novosti reports the words of Igor Korotchenko, head of a Moscow-based think tank on international arms trade, saying that if the S-300 deal with Venezuela goes through, Caracas should pay cash for the missiles, rather than take another loan from Russia. "The S-300 is a very good product and Venezuela should pay the full amount in cash, as the country's budget has enough funds to cover the deal ," Korotchenko said. Moscow has already provided Caracas with several loans to buy Russian-made weaponry, including a recent $2.2-mln loan on the purchase of 92 T-72M1M tanks, the Smerch multiple-launch rocket systems and other military equipment.

If Iran, therefore, cannot get the S-300 missiles directly from Russia, it can still have them through its proxy, Venezuela, and deploy them against its staunchest enemy, the U.S..

But that is not all. According to Reuters, Iran has developed a version of the Russian S-300 missile and will test-fire it soon, as declared by the official news agency IRNA, two months after Moscow cancelled the delivery to comply with United Nations sanctions[3]. Iran, in fact, has its own capabilities for constructing missiles that could carry atomic warheads. According to a study recently released by the International Institute of Strategic Studies in London, Iran is presently aiming to perfect the already existing solid-fuel, medium-range missile that can carry a nuke to hit regional targets, such as Israel[4]. If a missile base can be opened in Venezuela, many US cities will be able to be reached from there even with short-medium range missiles.

Nations Gather Against Israel

And as I have said on a number of occasions, there is no legal, historical or religious grounds for “palestinian” sovereignty over eastern Jerusalem or Judea and Samaria. As for the “settlements”, the very architects of resolution 242, the resolution the anti-Israel crowd likes to cite to claim “settlements” are illegal, have said in their own words that Jews have the legal right to settle.

None of this has anything to do with legalities but rather the terrified, feckless europeans attempting to appease the muslims by sacrificing Israel. They believe this will buy them security but they will find out that appeasing evil will bring greater pain to them down the road. Europe fails to learn from its own history. It will pay a steep price for turning against a great nation with enormous contributions to humanity in favor of barbarians. Israel MUST resist the pressure.

Former EU leaders challenge Ashton on Israel

10.12.2010 @ 09:30 CET

EUOBSERVER / BRUSSELS - A large group of former EU leaders and commissioners, including Catherine Ashton's predecessor Javier Solana, has urged the Union to take sanctions against Israel on settlements. But Ms Ashton's reply indicates the plea will go unheard.

The group in a letter to EU capitals and the leaders of the EU institutions on 6 December seen by EUobserver says that Israel "like any other state" should be made to feel "the consequences" and face "a price tag" for breaking international law by building thousands of new Jewish homes on Palestinian land.
Comment article

It asks EU foreign ministers at a meeting in Brussels on 13 December to state as doctrine that the EU: "Will not recognize any changes to the June 1967 boundaries, and clarify that a Palestinian state should be in sovereign control over territory equivalent to 100 percent of the territory occupied in 1967, including its capital in East Jerusalem."

It also asks ministers to set an ultimatum of April 2011 for Israel to fall into line or see the Union seek an end to the existing US-led peace talks format in favour of a UN solution.

On top of this, the bloc should: officially link its informal freeze on an upgrade in EU-Irsael diplomatic relations to a settlement freeze; block imports of products made in settlements but labelled as made in Israel; make Israel pay the lion's share of aid to Palestine; send a high-level delegation to East Jerusalem to back Palestinian claims; and reclassify EU support for Palestine as "nation building" instead of "institution building."

The letter warns in a note of urgency that "time is fast running out" because "Israel's continuation of settlement activity ... poses an existential threat to the prospects of establishing a sovereign, contiguous and viable Palestinian state."

Criticising existing EU policy, it adds that tough action is "a matter of fundamental credibility" for the bloc, which risks deterioration in its ties with Arab trade partners. "The EU needs to act more pro-actively in its relations with the US, Israel and others to promote the fulfillment of this objective," it says.

The letter is signed by 26 notables including 10 former leaders of European countries, 10 former ministers and several former EU commissioners. The roll-call includes former German chancellor Helmut Schmid, former German president Richard von Weizsacker, one-time Spanish leader Felipe Gonzales, ex-EU commission president and Italian PM Romano Prodi and the UK's former EU commissioner Chris Patten. It also represents the first time that the forerunner of EU foreign affairs chief Catherine Ashton, Javier Solana, has come out of the wings to challenge the newcomer.

The proposals read like a red rag to a bull as far as Israel is concerned.

Israel lobbied last year to stop the EU from saying that East Jerusalem, which Israel considers part of its "indivisible" capital, should be the centre of a new Palestinian state. It also has a vested interest in keeping its closest ally, the US, in charge of the peace process instead of involving hostile Arab countries under the UN umbrella.
