Texas Insider:
Sharia Law or Constitution? America Must ChooseContinue
By William G. Boykin
We tend to assume Islam deserves unquestioned First Amendment protection. But it is a totalitarian way of life with aggressive political goals, not just a religion. What is to be done?
The Founders who wrote the U.S. Constitution were very aware that the citizens of this nascent nation wanted the freedom to choose their own manner of worship. They made history by forbidding religious tests for public office in Article VI. They added the First Amendment to ensure that Americans would be protected from government interference in their spiritual affairs.
But a dilemma exists in our nation today concerning whether or how the First Amendment should properly be applied to Islam. This essay will show that the ultimate outcome of blanket protection for Islam in all its manifestations on the grounds of “religious freedom” would be the establishment of Islamic law and government, or Sharia, alongside or in place of civil law and government in this country.
As we will see, Sharia law is totalitarian in nature, providing no individual freedoms while virtually enslaving those who live under its authority. This is absolutely not what the Founders intended in creating the Bill of Rights.

Laura,
you should understand why Sharia law would appeal to Americans.
A lot of Americans are dismayed over moral decay in this country. They see half of all marriages ending in divorce, families breaking up, people embracing same-sex marriage, bankers defrauding millions of people and the government bailing them out, and people being murdered for various reasons, from the change in their pocket to jealousy over an adulterous affair to even their refusal to submit to sex.
What happened to Lara Logan was shocking and reprehensible. And yet, what happened to her happened to one in four women in America, and is many of those cases the perps were members of their own families. People see this happening in America, and they see this happening much less often in Muslim countries.
Sharia is in no way moral, therefore would not improve America's moral decay. Violence against women is sanctioned in islamic societies. All we need to do is get back to our own Judeo-Christian roots.
You are totally wrong about this happening less in islamic countries. In fact rape is sanctioned in islam. Stats show that more than 60% of Egyptian women and over 90% of foreign women in Egypt have been victims of sexual harassment or rape. Even if they are in full islamic dress. Muslim countries are rampant with sex slavery and human trafficking. In no way are muslim societies morally superior. Michael you don't know what you are talking about but you have clearly become an advocate for islamic law.
